I'm dealing with the same thing as you right now.

Fully embrace the 20 minute power nap. It is amazing. But make sure you only sleep for 20ish minutes, whenever I oversleep I always feel like shit when I wake up.

no coffee, don't argue with sleep.

do what matters first and get them done well and quickly. staying healthy helps a lot, exercise regularly; you'll have a healthier mind and find yourself able to handle things easier.

good luck there!

This so much. Don't be like me who's pulling all nighters like 3-4 times a week. I've been sleeping in some of my classes(luckily not during some important times) and been trying different methods just to stay awake in school like 5hr energy, energy drinks, sugar, and etc. I'm probably going to regret this as I've been told by many friends that I'll be paying it all back in the future. Heck, I'm actually doing an all nighter right now, and I know I'm in for trouble.

1) The hour you best internalize information is the hour before you go to sleep
2) To internalize that info you need to get REM sleep (this several hours in the dark no noise etc)
3) Stimulant such as common study aids (caffeine, Adderall, tea, nicotine, meth) have long halflifes (6+ hours) thus mess with REM sleep
4) Without sleep you are prone to anxiety, depression, paranoia

tl;dr sleep is really important and studying wont do as much if you don't get it. Stay away from Redbull after dinner and get your ZZZs

These are the things that worked for me when I broke the record for highest amount of credits taken in a semester at my university:

Highly recommend caffeine pills. The benefits of caffeine without sugar, $$$, yellow teeth, trips to the bathroom, etc.

Take short naps throughout the day, or find out what amount of sleep works the best for you. Oftentimes you can feel refreshed after sleeping just 90 min, but it depends on your sleep cycle. There are some mobile apps that can help you figure out what amount of sleep you need. DO NOT oversleep, you will feel sluggish afterwards.. so it is very important to find out your particular cycle...

Sometimes an all-nighter is required - just make sure you take good care of your body after it and don't do more than 2 all-nighters in a row. If you are planning to do an all-nighter, don't use too much sugar or caffeine to stay up because that will make you crash sooner than you had probably hoped.

Plan out your goals for each day for the next two-three weeks (depending on what you have going on) so that you are not overwhelmed with too many things in one day. If you set a goal for yourself to finish so-and-so thing then that will help with procrastination AND stress.

Change your environment every once in awhile too! Maybe even work outside! And don't forget to take breaks that have nothing to do with homework or studying.

Again these are just tips that have worked for me. Every person's body is different and I am one of those people that can survive on a smaller amount of sleep. The key is moderation. Slow and steady wins the race, not 5 all-nighters in a row.

Myself and others find that mint flavoured things are good for waking you up and keeping you alert. Chewing gum in the morning is usually pretty reasonably way to combat drowsiness, I did it a lot when at school.

Save the caffeine until finals week. If you're like me and don't drink a whole lot of caffeine and therefore you don't have a lot of caffeine tolerance, coffee will give you a fucking rush that you need for finals.

Prioritize your time. If you have to let go of some hobbies (tf2) for the mean time to focus on what really matters, then so be it. Sleep is really important for a good quality of life.

Manage your time better and schedule your days out so you can actually sleep, drop any unnecessary hobbies if you have too, you'll be far more productive when awake.

Change of scene, if you always work at home, go to the library and work or stay at school. Lots of breaks will stop you from feeling lethargic.

If you really need to sleep less, then go to polyphasic society and check out some of the info they got there. http://www.polyphasicsociety.com/polyphasic-sleep/overviews/everyman/ describes a sleep cycle where you only have to sleep ~4.5 hours. The uberman cycle lets you sleep the least(6*20 min naps = 2hrs) but it's pretty much impossible to accomplish a uberman cycle by yourself(plus researchers don't really know the long term effects of it).

If this stuff seems too extreme for you, then try a segmented sleep cycle (http://www.polyphasicsociety.com/polyphasic-sleep/overviews/segmented-sleep/), which is the natural sleep cycle humans had before industrialization turned us all into monophasic(aka one long sleep) sleepers. You sleep around 7 hours with this cycle, which is still less time than the reccommended 9 hr sleep one gets from a monophasic cycle(http://www.polyphasicsociety.com/polyphasic-sleep/overviews/monophasic/).

If you are fine with your sleep schedule , then a quick walk outside will keep you alert. Exercise in general will do that. Chewing gum(mint or peppermint generally works best) or popping a mint will make you feel more alert. Coffee does have health benefits, but caffeine and energy drinks such as red bull has stay for long periods of time in your bloodstream(like someone mentioned earlier), and does lead to crashes.

Sorry for getting all my sources from one place, but the site explains everything in detail, and does cite its evidence.

If you are having to pull consistent all-nighters as a junior in high school, you probably procrastinate like crazy and/or don't manage your time well at all.

You are posting to a computer game forum about this problem. Perhaps that's a hint that said computer game is actually a part of the problem. Not to hate on you or TF2, but something doesn't quite seem right here.

segmented sleep is ridiculous, the only way you can get away with it is if you avoid artificial light during your period of wakefulness (it would reset you biological clock) which is also ridiculous.

a candle is pretty much all the artificial light you can allow yourself without harming your cycle and if that works for you and you have something you want to do that doesnt require much light go for it, but 2 hrs of being awake at 3 am and only being able to use candlelight really limits my activities to the point where i would rather just get monophasiac sleep

I would recommend to try Modalert or it's upgrade - Waklert. These are most popular and effective and mostly used as piracetam replacement. A very good research sources are http://modafinilexperience.com (buying research) and http://gwern.net (uses research)
