Dragon Age Inquisition is really good imo. Definitely play the series in order if you want to see how the storyline connects (and because your previous character will effect the next game). The game plays well, despite having a few bugs here and there (I haven't experience anything too major, but they can be an annoyance at times). I really enjoyed the storyline and just how much shit there is to do in the game.

Another good RPG is Divinity: Original Sin, but the combat system is old school turn-base so I don't know how much you'll appreciate it. Take a look and see if it fits your tastes.

If you do decide to play KOTOR I&II, make sure to get the restored content mod for KOTOR II. The second game tends to get a bit of a bad rap for being incomplete and incoherent because LucasArts rushed Obsidian to get the game released in time for Holiday '04, but IMO it's even better than the first with the latest version of TSLRCM installed.

Edit: Also, since you said you said you played a bunch of the Total War Series, Crusader Kings II and Europa Universalis IV are nice time wasters if you were ever wanted more out of the grand campaigns' map/turn-based parts.

i played this so much in my mid teens

I've always found these types of games (gotta mention tactics ogre whenever fft is mentioned) really difficult to get into because the sheer amount of party customization can be so daunting.

However, for the same reason, they are my favorite games of all time (excluding tf2 of course) because building your strategy and your characters feels so rewarding. It helps that both fft and tactics ogre are extremely well done and their stories are amazing. just getting past the five hour hump is so difficult for the first playthrough

for a complete change of pace i'd recommend The Vanishing of Ethan Carter. It's basically a mystery walking sim, but the game does a great job of creating a spooky yet somehow sentimental atmosphere. i really enjoyed it.

Dark Souls definitely. If you intend on tackling it, then you absolutely have to follow this guide to get the pc port optimized to its fullest potential: http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=113145325. It will be well worth your time.

yeah, man. there's a lot you can do in terms of your party. i mean a lot. tons of possibly jobs that require specific knowledge to unlock via other jobs. map knowledge for better items. what works for you, for the upcoming battles, knowing how to play out each map layout so that it works in your favor without losing a guy, etc.

i think that's why it's in my top 5 favorite games, to be honest. in terms of today, the game doesn't have a lot to offer, but back then it really did. the game still holds up today too! it has a near perfect balance of quality and quantity.

I really enjoyed Shining Force 1 and 2, you'd need to get a genesis emulator and the ROMs but they're pretty easy to find. Played through both of them on my phone between classes and while waiting for the bus. As for PC games I really liked Torchlight 2, was a ton of fun to play with a friend and I still enjoyed it in single player.

AndKennethMapleFar Cry 2 is the greatest game of all time.I never imagined there would be other weirdos like me who love that game.

I hesitate to call it "fun" in the way I'd call Quake or Skyrim fun but I've never seen a game that was as incredibly designed. The setting, the mechanics, the plot all reinforced each other in a way that made the game feel real and actually emotionally significant. I played the game a while back and then came back to it after doing some work in a Central African nation for a while and holy shit, that game is the closest thing to a war torn nation African nation simulator that I could imagine.

I'll second the recommendations for SoC and CoP, both had amazing atmospherics. I didn't have any issues with Clear Sky though, I think I ran a mod and didn't run into any game ending bugs. SoC was actually the least stable for me but all of them were very much worth dealing with occasional crashes.

Mark of the Ninja

Sonic & All stars racing transformed

IMO both are one of the best games on steam at the moment. Don't let Sonic scare you away from the game, its tough as shit with very good mechanics. Sonic also doubles as a multiplayer game and you can couch coop pretty much anytime.

Mark of the ninja is also a very good game centered around great mechanics and mood. Also has great replayability.

Recommend controller for both games if you have one.

I gotta recommend Ziggurat. The easiest way to describe it is that it's a first person binding of issac. You find items and weapons whole advancing through rooms, then fight a boss at the end of each floor. It's a rouge lite, so once you die your run is over and you restart. Creature design is varied and interesting, weapons are diverse and have drastically different stats. There are 12 characters to unlock all with a different starting wand (You play as wizards) and different stats. Phenominal game, go get it.

People have already said so many great games but for the sake of backing them up

Bioshock 1 + Infinte
Fallout 3 and New Vegas
Batman Asylum and City
Portal 1 +2

really there are so many but if you are also into jrpgs there are a huge amount of them that I would recommend, SMT and Persona games would be my first picks though. Hope you find something you like, i've picked up a few things I want to try from this thread myself.

Bioshock infniites really good IMO. But see some gameplay to decide whether you will like it or not. If you like the combat or find it above average, you will love the game. Binding of isaac rebirth, dishonored nfs rivals are good games.
