What is Reflex?
Reflex is a Quake style arena shooter with a skill based movement system. It is made in a custom engine with significant similarities to source. It is currently in Alpha.
The movement mechanics include rocket jumping, pill jumping, bhopping, telehopping, double jumping, triple jumping, and circle jumping.

Why should I be hyped for this game?
Since Quake there hasn't been an arena shooter with nearly as much success. Mostly because they have all been clones, they weren't refined, or they just never grew a player base. This is where Reflex stands out. Reflex isn't a clone of Quake. It has brand new movement mechanics, maps, and gameplay. Currently it is a little rough around the edges, but what can you expect? They are on build 0.29.x right now and they are updating and adding to the game constantly. Finally the playerbase shouldn't be a problem because it is already in early access on steam and on the humble store.

Competitive?
Yes. The game is centered around being an excellent competitive game. It may not be tournament ready right now, but it is the dev's intention to have it being played competitively soon. But in order for the competitive scene to grow, they need experienced players! If you were a Quake player I have no doubt that you will enjoy reflex.
They have direct ports of your favorite maps from Quake.

And if you have never played an arena shooter before great! You should try it out too!
The game is planned to have an ingame coach system to help new players, as well as tutorials for movement and training maps. Also in some of the new maps there are hints telling new players how to do complicated jumps.

Once lag compensation and better optimization happen this game is gonna be awesome. I already really enjoyed it before I'm just on a small break.

Reflex is still prealpha so it's going to have some pretty glaring flaws for the time being. You can keep up with development on the forums or at #reflex on quakenet and while you're there you should

Proper netcode is scheduled for next patch.

My desktop is a toaster and it can run reflex just fine with all the graphical options they've put in.

Anyway, differences between reflex and CPM are:

Triple jumping
Stake Jumping
Multiplayer map editor
Built-in matchmaking
Splash through walls (currently a fix for staircases gobbling up rockets. Might get revised. You can't do the TF2 thing of making stairs ramps since ramps have absurd physics.)
Lack of a proper spawn system in reflex (to be fixed; currently possible to telefrag by spawning)

Reflex has serious potential. Right now it needs work, but you can still make maps for when netcode does get fixed.

MOOSE_sevennndid they pay you to do thisNah man, I'm just excited to see it grow :3

why are people so delusional with some fps games, arena shooters have been on a rapid decline lately and a game thats basically a quake knock off isn't going to magically revive the genre. just because the game is on a different engine that doesn't change the fact that its the same style play, same guns , maps and all reskinned. i'd love to think that a new engine is gonna spark interest but thats not how it works at all sorry

Yeah, defy has a point. I mean just cuz CSGO was on a new engine doesn't make it better than CS1.6 so why should Reflex be better than CPMA?

Didn't they make the alpha paid to fund the development in-place of the Kickstarter and to give people an incentive to put money towards the game by having something to mess around with?

I bought it- and I'd buy it again - just because I love the Arena shooter genre.

I think having a new arena shooter with decent graphics and good matchmaking might not revitalize the genre, but because it's on steam, it might cause a modest increase in players, and I'd be happy with that.

Ain't never gonna be what it was, but it is nice to see a new Arena Shooter game.
