This is the 10th edition of Mixup vs b4nny's team in a LAN grand finals since ESEA S9 (that was September 24-25, 2011). B4nny's team leads 5-4 in those matchups. Mixup took ESEA S10, 12, 15 Grand Finals and i46 Grand Finals. B4nny's team took ESEA S9, 11, 13, 14, 16 Grand Finals.

I've caught a bit of here and there from the matches today. My only take is Clockwork should be banned for the sake of fair play.

dingoid rather have no caster than getawhale

Mike was put in a tough spot. Didn't plan on casting. There were numerous technical delays. Everyone is very short on sleep. It's rough.

Everyone here, especially Mike, is super nice. Did you know mike drove an extra 1.5hrs yesterday to pick up gamers from the airport after he made it to the hotel? I think I'm a nice guy but even I woulda said "sorry buds I'm super tired".

So Mike isn't your favorite caster, ok. He is super chill. And I'm not saying that Mikes automatically a good caster because he's nice, I'm just saying that everyone here is nice. I imagine if you were here you'd probably be a nice gamer too. But you're not. You're just an internet person. A shitty internet person that's killing our nice gamer buzz.

I'm tired as fuck on my phone. Hope that made sense. (You're a shit)

Perhaps a suggestion for the next event. I know lan finals are supposed to be the ultimate test of endurance and stamina. However if at all possible, could the grand finals be the next day at a reasonable time (not 9 in the morning as with i52)? That way both teams can rest up and recuperate to put on the best show possible. Not to make excuses for anyone but I kind of felt for mix up, after fighting it out of a 3rd map with elevate they didn't get much of a rest between that and the grand finals, and it showed. Their first map against Froyo at the beginning of the day was much closer. Not to say Froyo didn't improve as the day went on, but the manner in which froyo rolled especially on sunshine it just looked like mix up were a little depleted.

Sidenote, Getawhale and Geks offered the kind of casting that has been the staple of european casting for a while with admirable and pledge. It was professional with the odd curse word thrown in, but that was excusable. The cast was also witty, and both casters actually had casting/radio voices, as opposed to whiny, insecure, sarcastic, just entered puberty voices that we are used to. If the e-sport is going to grow the game needs more people like this.

TLDR edition:
1. Move grand finals to the next day at a reasonable time.
2. The casting was great.

how about you stop shitposting and actually appreciate the amount of work people have done for the game you've spent 5800 hours playing.

It's easy to be snarky and dish out trifling criticisms on those who go to such great lengths to support this game when you have nothing to contribute yourself. Getawhale, and the rest of the TFTV crew at GXL did a great job providing yesterday's coverage. If you didn't enjoy it, I'm sure they would love to hear your criticisms framed in a more constructive manner. If you can't do that, just ignore the stream and sit quietly while you wait for your STVs ok thank you

i play it they dont
the stvs never came
you want me to format my criticism?
1. dont use some shitty "secret hud" that people may not like maybe you could just stick to a format that the community has already responded positively to
2. what the fuck was that color overlay, jesus christ i love casts where i can actually see whats going on
3. maybe have casters that actually have played the game competitively in the last year? i dont think gxl had a lack of those and we could at least use one caster that has a clue of what the fuck is going on besides two people who are (still doing a super duper job and trying their best) have no fucking idea what the teams are going to do or what they were attempting to do
good job responding to criticism and using thefragile for more in-depth analysis (or maybe getawhale was just tired)
good job casting for a long-ass time
also can we not watch the stvs live because gxl wont provide them or is it some issue involving server security and ddossing
cause i would really LOVE to just have the stvs provided before the game goes live so i dont have to subject you all to my horrible forum posts

The HUD being used at the event is essentially a slight modification of the same eXtv HUD that's been in use for the last 5-6 or so months; all that's different is a different font, different control point icons, and a few smaller changes (removal of stretched skulls when players die, health bars that are a slighly darker blue when a player is buffed, and a darker killfeed).

I tried my best to be both receptive to what both community and eXtv as an organization wanted, as well as being as transparent as possible, when developing it - In fact I even streamed the development of it, and did my best to be receptive to the cricism that those that watched threw at me while I was making it, in addition to abiding by the desires of eXtv. If there's something you see that's glaringly wrong with it though, I'd be happy to give it my best shot in terms of improving it. After the LAN's conclusion on Sunday I plan to release it for general use by the public (both the version used at GXL as well as the main version that uses Futura as a font), and I'd like to have all of the kinks worked out by then, so knowing what I need to fix now would benefit everyone in the long run.

As for the color correction, I'm going to assume that in order for the production to run as smoothly as possible they used a capture card to grab the video from the cameraman's PC and send it to the production PC, which in turn hurt the quality of the video feed. I'm sure that if it were at all possible to give the legitimate in-game colors the production crew would've done that happily. However, I'm not there so I don't know if this is true or not. Regardless I don't think they were trying to hurt anyone's viewing experience.

I'd say use the modified ompHUD that tftv uses. Very simple and not as distracting as the other one. Seriously, it's horrible. Or maybe I'm not used to it since I'm euro and always watch the tftv streams and not extv.

The only problem I saw in the casting is that they were a little boring compared to the eu counterparts, but maybe that's just me.

Well, and the color filter.

Apart from that good job!

loljkPerhaps a suggestion for the next event. I know lan finals are supposed to be the ultimate test of endurance and stamina. However if at all possible, could the grand finals be the next day at a reasonable time (not 9 in the morning as with i52)?

Also, to let the eu people watch the finals. Was expecting when I got back home to be able to watch them, turns out that they didn't happen until 4+ am.

the problem with our game is that no one gets paid to cast, so most high-level players don't wanna go all the way down to GXL and not even get to play

one good format that often works in such a scenario is to try to get players who have already been knocked out of a tourney to come in as analysts, ESL always does that for csgo and it's pretty entertaining

I personally would love to cast this if I were able to do so from home but it seems like that's impossible rip

When it comes to commentators I don't really listen to the analysis after a month or so of following the game(whatever that game may be; e-sport, sport or game), so I just find it important that they appear professional in the sense of not saying anything bad and that they are good hosts. I think Gecks and Getawhale are both absolutely fine for the newer players and are good faces for the game(which I'm sure not all invite players would be).

As for the HUD; I like it. It looks a lot more modern than the modified ompHUD, which I think is what people need to get used to. It is slightly wider and the top-left corner of the screen is taken up by a scoreboard, but you can actually read the player names without them getting cut off and the scoreboard is just top-left versus top-right corner. Perhaps the scale could be reduced slightly, but I think it's just a matter of getting used to it.

Thanks to everyone who worked on any part of the production, organisation or presentation.
