Giving them a prize that they won doesn't count as helping them get to lan. It would require a lot of work from many people but the money can be raised.

Playing one season of open requires $25 times 8 people per team to account for those that have 1-2 backups times the number of teams (50) you'd get like $10k. Intermediate would raise about $4k and Invite about $2000.

Total would be about $16k which would firstly pay for the LAN expenses, then the prize pot, and then the travel expenses.

Edit: I'm assuming this league charges the same amount but the money goes back into growing TF2 and the competitive community instead of whatever ESEA decides to do. I'm sure sponsors would get involved as well if the league gets a good deal of teams.

as much as everyone hates esea, i think we need it as a league for the sake of the game

rising a league out of nothing is a lot more difficult than people seem to think lol, especially if you have to set up a LAN venue at the end of it all

Assuming your calculations are correct. If it was matching this season the prize pot would be $12,780. So you know have $3,220 for all the rest of your expenses.

crazy idea #2: competitive tf2 would likely get more popular if our one flagship league actually did shit properly, and had a functional stream

people who might be interested in TF2 might like to watch matches instead of a single screen consisting of stats, and I really shouldn't have to explain why this stream is a very good example of how to do the opposite of that

I rounded down on $4.5k and $2.5k by accident so it's actually $17k meaning you get $4,220. ESEA has several sponsors so a lot of their expenses are probably taken care of. This "TFTV" league would be capable of getting sponsors as well.

The main point is that ESEA does fuck all for the promotion of TF2. Having a TF2 exclusive league would help rather than playing in a league where the game is an afterthought.

Needs for a LAN

-location big enough for 12 computers (basement or large room would do) in a fairly central, easy to travel to location
-12 computers similar enough that no one has an advantage (or 12 of the players bring a rig to pool)
-minimal net gear for under 30 pcs
-connection good enough for streaming
-PCs and space/separate room for casters
-a couple people to make sure everything is sorted for the players (rides and shit)
-Lange tech support

Have a peek at what thegdstudio did a few weeks ago... Hosted a $10,000 8 man SC2 tourney in a house.

A 12 person LAN isn't some unattainable mythical thing only for large organisations. Get a couple eXtv guys there, and I fucking guarantee you'd have enough gear for a pro broadcast, or at least some interviews to go along with online casting. Print up some posters, and stick them to cardboard, and your shit looks pro.

I mean shit... If I didn't live on an island in western Canada I'd offer my place, and take the week prior off to get the place looking good for free. Any of you starving students could bring a sleeping bag, and crash wherever. There's gotta be someone else as geeky as I am that could sort out a location.

Fucking guarantee if this community actually worked together it could happen for a reasonable price. The 1st LAN would be the most expensive, and after that it would get easier. If you could do it well, sponsors would probably get interested.

What a joke. No professionalism.

I don't care if the CS stream is fucked. Who wants to actually watch CS? A "radio cast" is better than nothing I suppose.

EDIT: Slin's stream seems more stable.

alfunksoI would support a tf.tv league

I would support ESEA working more closely with people in TF2 community (ie TFTV) that understand the community's needs better. Cutting yourself off from ESEA is naive.

I really don't understand this. Did they test their setup before the matches started? Is it technically unfeasible to test their setup? Are they really lazy enough to not test a setup that will be getting thousands of viewers and representing their league?

Its not the streams fault, not langes fault, not esea's fault. Its an issue with tf2 that the stvs are timing out.

you guys remember the MGE league? Lot of people seriously underestimate what it takes to put on an event.

I feel like a working STV for such a huge match is not too much to ask for (especially from people that I've paid probably over $100 to and most people here even more). ETF2L coverage of their LANs are very easy to connect to from across the pond (in my limited experience).

Regardless of TF2 updates, a working STV should be something that is established before matches start.

stop ranting if you can't even do the math right. most of you can't even fucking connect to your scrims in time, yet you are bitching about ESEA not hosting a flawless LAN that costs tens of thousands of dollars.

even MLG had major issues like this about 10 events in. it happens

agreed. issues happen all the time at big events. the only perfect or near perfect gaming event i've seen was the international 2.
