Keep in mind that GXL is about ~45 min drive (no traffic) to Philadelphia, it's almost like saying the iNSOMNIA series LAN is in London. Unless you have a designated driver, going out at night in Philadelphia proper will not be convenient.

If you are going to the city, check out South St.

Lots of bars, cool shops, places to eat (2nd best cheesesteaks in the city, "Jim's" is there). Strip clubs are near there too for those of you who have never seen breasts.

beer in pa is i think the most expensive in the entire country. i remember being blown the fuck away at how much a case of the "cheap" shit (coors, bud, etc) was. buy your beer in ny, nj, literally anywhere but pa.

marching band competition season :(

Let me preface this by saying that I'm a concert junky. I spent some time looking around online for shows that would coincide with GXL because I figure I'd want to do something in philly other than just game for 3 days straight.

Lo and behold: Porter Robinson is playing on Friday, October 10th at the Tower Theater and Lemaitre is opening for him.

Figured a bunch of nerds that like Lemaitre might wanna know, tickets can be found from anywhere from $35-60 as of last night. If I can spare the dosh I'm probably gonna go.

Sadly, the only other decent show around GXL is The Orwells, but they play Monday night and I need to be back in Minneapolis by Monday morning :(

The Tower Theatre is technically in upper darby, and you obviously already looked into that one. If I were you I'd check out the other venues for upcoming shows.

I looked through the calenders of all 3 of those (plus Philly Union, Tower, Johnny Brenda's, First Unitarian Church, Barbary and a few other bar/smaller venues in the area) and of all of those, the only thing decent (imo) that coincides with GXL is the Porter Robinson concert. Obviously, everyone has their own taste and could go to a different show, but I thought it notable to post the Porter Robinson show due to this communities love affair with Lemaitre.

since it's looking like the grime is gonna unite at gxl, put me on the list as willing to drive from Raleigh, NC. the route i'll probably take will bring me through richmond, va and close to DC, so anyone along the way is welcome to meet me should there be space available. my car can fit 4 + me (with a full back seat), but probably only 2/3 desktops and monitors. i'm undecided on whether i'm gonna bring my desktop or just use a laptop instead as of right now, but closer to the date i'll probably make a decision.

edit: also is it illegal to bring liquor across state lines

it actually is illegal to bring alcohol into PA, but just don't have it in plain view and you'll be fine. it's not like there's border checkpoints or anything

Going to start updating the second post with a team list and a "looking for team" list. Please post your team roster or if you're looking for a team.

If you're looking for a team, please put the class(es) you play and perhaps your skill as well (ESEA-IM, UGC-Gold, etc.) If you haven't played in any leagues, then describe your skill loosely, lol.

Right now, there is roughly a 20 team limit, but I have leverage on this limit at any time. It's only set to 20 at this very moment due to spacing and power of the venue, but if we need to throw in a few more teams, I should be able to make it happen. However, I probably don't want to make this tournament any bigger than 24 teams, due to the schedule of trying to get this done all in one day.

You will not be put down on any kind of list unless you are paid. If your attendance to the event is contingent on you being on a team, then you'll have to find a team through your own research if you don't feel like paying beforehand.
