It still breaks initial surprise kritz plays where you want to just drop them and clean up afterwards. Sniper-sticky med drops were some of the most fun plays.

PhaserThat new sniper rifle is completely useless, but that sound brings back...so many feels.

They need to make it like tfc where if you shot them in the feet they would walk slower. And have a trailing lag dot!

The strongest part of kritz is its surprise factors (thats why it's never used full-time), and you kinda lose that if the first sticky doesn't kill.

Chriz_Tah_Fahkanonanyway why did they decide to change the rl/medigun/etc viewmodels but not fucking remove that hand on the left with the originalI don't understand why they changed them at all, don't think anyone really complained about them. At least if they gave the option to put it back to how it was before. I don't actually play soldier but I do use viewmodels with it, the new one however takes up a ton of the screen and looks really odd to me.

Also, has anyone else noticed that the scouts left wrist is bent weird when reloading? Don't think it was like that before.

i remember scout getting a really similar reload animation to how it is now when demos woould get old, but its still really bizarre to see it now.

KingReptarSo I was expecting this to be awful just like everyone else as a demo main. Surprisingly, I've been having A LOT of fun. Pipes, while unreliable, are fun as hell, and it feels nice to not be focused all the time. Also, using more traps is pretty fun.

I didn't think Valve nerfing my class would make me enjoy it more, but it did. I am probably an outlier though.

I haven't played any 6s since the update but this honestly makes me want to pick up demo again. Using stickies for area denial/traps and not being the DPM crutch for your team while being the main focus for the other team sounds great for me. I never really liked the "old" playstyle, so I never practiced it and was complete shit although I loved the class itself. I also love how satisfying pipes are to hit while stickies never really did it for me. If it is the outlying opinion then so be it but I honestly have hope for what the update is going to do to the meta.

Can you explain to me what you think the difference between area denial and damage is? You don't actually think area denial literally means put stickies on the ground right?

The way I thought about it was this

it will cause people to have to decide if they want that 20-30 damage (minimum decision time) to be able to get closer

stickies just count a hell of a lot more now

not that I don't wish it wasn't just a % damage nerf overall, but I don't think there's going to be a rebalance to the sticky launcher

Demoman has been the best class in the game for a while now, but the proper nerf should have been reducing the stickybomb clip size to 4, maybe 6, and/or a reduction in reload speed. That way you can still do damage offensively but you aren't allowed to miss 4 stickies and still dominate a point. This would also allow people to disarm traps before demos can set it up again, making pushing faster. A damage nerf like this reduces the demo's value in teamfights, he's only useful for camping chokes and points now, which is kinda dumb.

I know a lot of people probably disagree, but its really cool to see teams try out different demo unlocks. watching the twitch invitational tonight was the most fun ive had spectating tf2 in a while.

AllealCan you explain to me what you think the difference between area denial and damage is? You don't actually think area denial literally means put stickies on the ground right?

Right, I don't actually think area denial literally means put stickies on the ground.

Now what I think the difference is between area denial and damage is that area denial is the threat of damage as well as damage. If an enemy gamer is where you don't want them to be, you damage them until they get the fuck out. Now if are are at choke and you would rather not have the enemy team come through choke, a demo might think the put a couple stickies down to dissuade them from doing so. Now I consider, I guess here is the source of your question, that the word area denial is more closely associated to the threat of damage than actual damage is. As damage is taken and viewed at as its own individual thing/stat, that the only time area denial would really be used would be to describe area denial minus DPS more so when DPS is mentioned as a separate thing in the same thought.

I guess I made a wrong assumption that people perceived the word the same way I do. I can't seem to think, being 1am and all, of a different word to describe the "threat of damage" and to stop an enemy to go where you don't want them to, so suggestions are more than welcomed.

I hate how the demo nerf works, it just doesn't feel right, stickies are really awkward now, happy they finally got nerfed, but adding more mechanics into that weapon is not the way to go.

and how exactly are new players supposed to learn that stickies have a damage rampup mechanic unless someone tells them?

How are new players supposed to know that airbursting is a thing unless people tell them? or that stickies that are laid for traps have full damage independent of ramp up if they let the stickies stay on the ground for a while (it actually worked like this before the update)?

Its like every other day someone on reddit mentions that up until now they only used the GL as their primary. New players would rather charge in and die anyway.

TendaMonstaI don't think they actually modified it's base damage. If they didn't change it's base damage then the wrangler is fine (and by fine I mean retarded, but not to the point where it'd be banned in HL).

I'm completely wrong here guys...Apparently valve thought it was a good idea to modify how stickies deal damage to buildings.

You can test if you can air burst within 3 seconds of switching to demoman, you can't do that with a damage rampup mechanic. I'm sort of confused by the second part of your question as there was no damage rampup pre-update at all.
