Huge Fps Drop

So as of recently I've been noticing this giant fps drop I was getting at mid fights as well as just randomly throughout playing. For example, with all settings on low I'll get around 250 fps at spawn, then during mid fights it will drop down to around 30-40. Before around this past month I was playing on high settings with around 80 consistent fps, now I'm fighting to get above 40 in big altercations. Help!

Here's my specs
-Rosewill CHALLENGER Black Gaming ATX Mid Tower
-Kingston HyperX Blu 8GB (2 x 4GB)
-AMD Athlon X4 750K Trinity 3.4GHz Socket FM2 100W
-SAPPHIRE 100358L Radeon HD 7770 GHz Edition 1GB 128-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 x16 CrossFireX Support Video Card
-MSI FM2-A55M-E33 FM2 AMD A55 (Hudson D2) HDMI Micro ATX AMD Motherboard with UEFI BIOS
-Seagate Barracuda ST1000DM003 1TB 7200 RPM
-Cooler Master i500 - 500W Power Supply

tf2 is poorly optimized so it'll happen, best bet is to just google fps boosts

Your cpu is definitely the bottleneck here. I happen to have a very similar setup, only big difference being I use an i5, and always have a stable 120+ fps. I'd say it's time to upgrade, afraid there's no other real fix to go back to your old framerate.

But here try some of the solutions in this thread, these should get you at least some frames back. http://teamfortress.tv/thread/7639/fps-improvement-compilation

edit: oop ninjaed

Damn, you would think a quad core 8 month old CPU would be able to handle a 7 year old game....

I've been having FPS issues in TF2 recently too

not sure if it's related to an update or if my hardware is dying (possibility with this California weather lately)

it's not so much a general FPS drop but I get hiccups very significantly, every few minutes at least. have an i7-950 and a gtx 570 with 12gb ram and tf2 is on my ssd, so I'd really like to know if anyone else is having fps drops

I formatted my computer as well so I dunno!!!!!!!

Yea this is very similar to my problem, it's almost like every 2 minutes or so my fps will just drop extremely, even if theres not much going on. I'm reinstalling now to see if that will make any difference.

Edit: Didn't fix shit

If its quad core, be sure you have multicore rendering enabled (mat_queue_mode 2 in console), or you're literally at half effectiveness. Makes it a little more crashy while watching demos and loading a listen server though.

You can also just overclock the shit out of it and get a decent cooler. More raw cpu power means more fps in TF2.

I do have multicore rendering, thus I honestly have no idea how to fix this or where things went wrong
