idk how full size steelseries headsets sound, but apparently their flux iems are p good. It's kind of dumb to write off a headphone just because it has a gaming brand attached to it. They might be overpriced for what they are (not to say that Sennheisers aren't), in the end, its up to personal preference, and some people might prefer comfort and convenience over sound quality.

But yeah, you can't go wrong with a good pair of headphones and a cheap mic. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16826532001 is a great deal if you don't mind tight clamping force and the portable form factor.

I got audio technicas M45 2 weeks ago. They're pretty good, but I'm still trying to "break" them because it's too much pressure on my ears. My $20 Sennheisers were more comfortable, but started to fall apart after ~1 year (though I treated it roughly).

I´d go independent. In case something bites the dust, you just don't give a fuck. Same goes if you decide to upgrade.

As for headphones, try Koss Porta Pro. They are cheap, ugly and have lifelong warranty. Superlux HD681 may be a viable option as well.

Get a microphone with it, like the Zalman Zm-Mic1 (~8 bucks) or something like the Logitech Labtec Desktop Microphone 600 (~30 bucks)

I've had the same Plantronics GameCom 780 headset for 2 and a half years. It was $80 when I bought it, and I've seen it for the same price even nowadays.

I honestly can't compare it to other headsets I've owned, but I would say the velvet ear cups are really comfortable - and the surround sound is solid. I wasn't expecting anything when I bought this, and I was pleasantly surprised.

Sennheiser HD 5X8 headphones + desktop USB mic. I have the 518s, and I like them a lot, but I've heard lots of good things about the 558 and 598

are you looking for closed or open headphones.

alternatively, you could always use IEMs and a clip on/desk mic.

Grab a pair of good headphones and pickup a snowball.

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B006DIA77E/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Just picked that one up and it sounds amazing. Even recorded some acoustic with it.

kuzaThere's a few rules in life that are good to follow.

1. Don't buy a car from a company that specializes in microwaves.
3. Don't buy sound equipment from gaming companies.

Live and learn.

Think this logic ain't 100% right. For cars your forgetting Mitsubishi cars, which has the Lancer Evo. Which performs very well on track.

Sound equipment, more into detail about Logitech. For example Logitech speakers, Z-2200, Z-2300, Z-560, Z-680, and Z-5500 aren't made by Logitech. Their speakers and subs come from this audio company called Tang Band. Link posted below

As for the OP, you need to have a budget on what you want to buy. Anyone can recommend headsets, and whats their best in their own opinion. You yourself I recommend is to test it out at a store or something. For example apple store in a mall, they have a bunch of headphones made for music. Test them out and listen whats best for you. If you want to go that route though, then you need to buy a separate mic. Gaming headsets though is a cheaper route. In the end though, listen for yourself. And test it out. Also have a budget on what you want to get. You can narrow down those options.

You still pay for material quality. My $20 headphones had an awful cord and it split in half. My new ones have a fancy coil at the ends and is heavily protected. Also seems much less likely to break off an ear speaker based on the way the plastic is secured to the arch. I'd rather get headphones that have good build quality than having to patch up my headphones often.

yeah, i can agree with that.

edited my last comment cause I sounded like a dick (didn't mean to)

although you definitely gotta be real about a budget and not go over it.

I have the Corsair Vengeance 1500 for 80 bucks and I love it. 4 months old, quality sound and extremely comfortable.

However, the best headset I ever had was the Razer Carcharias. I think that's running around 69.99 in some places.
