I am curious why nobody uses the esea pug service in the client.(tf2)
they are good servers with an easy pug/scrim system
there are alternatives such as tf2center.com but what if you want something more competitive?

Aside from inhouse pugs, pug.na is the most competitive. Mix if you get fatkidded a lot.

its more or less the fact that everyone uses IRC and is used to it already, and we have done some ESEA pugs but by god the servers took such a huge shit its easier to use our own cfgs and servers at this point

you're pretty limited with ESEA pugs I.E only 12 people in a server at once, it used to be a race of whoever joined the server first and with lots of people wanting to play it didn't last long

when pug na is active, you'll have at least 20+ people added up so you can get multiple games going...quite a bit of players do in house pugs as well

It's a pretty stable system and has been for years now; just any slight inconvenience makes the average tf2 nerd

pugna is usually dead until later on in the day. earliest i've seen lately is around scrim time. mix usually starts during the early afternoon. also a reason to go to mix at least until pugna is active.
