Once they grab the basics of the competitive scene, feel free to join #tf2mix on quakenet (for 6's) and tf2.pug.nahl on GeeksIRC (for 9's, Highlander play). They host mumble-mandatory pugs. You get some assholes and some silly gamers etc, but all in all is a good place to hone skill and learn more about pugs and comp.
