Hey everyone,

I was looking for a couple of quick things to do to make my game run a little smoother.
Now, I run 40-50 fps in normal times, but when their is lots of things happening at the same time(Heavy shooting, an uber going on, and rocket explosions) it gets down to 15-20, which is barely playable and definitly a disadvantage when getting a pick.

Anyone have any idea what to do?
Thanks

FPS config, cooling mat if it's a laptop, gamebooster type program to close processes while ingame.

Do you already run any of Chris' fps configs?
If not I'd highly recommend them, https://chrisdown.name/tf2/ you can fine them all there, they aren't completely up to date though, I believe mat_phong 0 is one of the commands not in the configs.

I'd say go for maxframes and see how that works for you, if it's still not enough there are various other tweaks you can do with your graphics card.

Thanks for the answers :)
However I'm not really looking for a cfg as intense as Chris'. TF2 looks like TFC after applying it :p
I don't really need MAX config, but just a little boost in FPS :)

Thanks

Very very low fps i think. u need other PC really.

but, u can try all recommend +

Low LOD (nvidia work 100%, ATI i don't know)

http://etf2l.org/forum/customise/topic-17728/page-1/

Also clean cooler CPU and apply thermal paste. Our pc need maintenance, specially CPU.

Thank you for the answer, but I don't want it to look to ugly, and the FPS isn't that bad

Trust me, making your game look shit but having over 120 fps feels so much better.

Ahaha the very first minute I installed I got a reverse matador. It's gotta be a sign :p

Seriously though, with high frames, I get frames that are very bright.
Is this only happening to me?

If you have a pre-gtx600 series card you either have to downgrade to drivers from like 1.5 years back (306.97), or use dx9 frames afaik. Dx8 + new drivers fucks up textures.

I get studder, not in fps, but in brightness.

Yeah I have a gt555m.
How do I assign dx9 as default?
Is there any disadvantage to that?

Dx8 feels smoother to me, might get better/worse fps on dx9 compared to dx8. You set it by adding -dxlevel 90 to launch options. Mostly it's just personal preference.

Id like to use dx8, because yes, dx9 makes me lag, but I get those light things with dx8

how do you value of the graphics of tf2 over performance? the game doesn't even look that good. i'd take 50+ fps over graphics any day.

Yes, so I'd like to run dx8, but without the light studder :)

Im installing an old driver my nvidia, see how that goes

Is this the correct one? http://www.nvidia.fr/download/driverResults.aspx/72641/fr

Out of curiosity what kind of machine are you running on right now(CPU/GPU/RAM)?

If you still want your game to look pretty nice but also get better fps, DX9 frames is the way to go. However if you also want to use dx8 on an Nvidia GPU you're forced to rollback to like two year old drivers(Nvidia 306.97 found here) so your textures don't flicker.

EDIT: looks like I was a bit late sorry :[

Thanks, Im downloading that right now :)

Actually Chris's cfg doesnt change much when I have dx9 enable, so I'll just retrograde.
WIll anything noticible happen to my graphic card?

I am running an Asus n75sf, 12 gb ram, Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-2430M CPU @ 2.40GHz, gt555m

laptops are shitty and get hot so they throttle back the cpu clock, get a cooling mat and your CPU won't throttle back as much.

Also try using pressurized air to blow out all the dust in your laptop fans. Reduces throttling.

I used to have a shit laptop that I played at 30 FPS with even with maxframes. I finally got a real rig a few months ago and usually stay above 120 frames. The reason why I'm saying this is because you could probably get near 100 frames with Chris' maxframes and it's seriously like playing another game when you do. The first time I played tf2 with my new computer I thought it was at 2x speed it was so different.

TL;DR you want frames. You do. Do anything you can to get over 100, you will love it. Even if youd rather have your graphics back you can just remove the configs to revert.
