Would be a fun game to duel in but the walljumping gimmick really kills the game when you play the people who know how to abuse it, i.e. you can continue to gain momentum as you time jumps from side to side on any surface, making hitting them with anything but a well timed rocket a nightmare. Also most of the maps are very vertically oriented, making for lots and lots of rail advantages. Other than that it's just a reduced-damage CPMA clone with pig models. If people played more 2on2/4on4 it'd probably be more fun, but even when I played with a decent scene there were only ever a handful of NA duelers and the only other active servers being Clan Arena on one map all the time.

how does this game differ/compare to all the many quakes?

It's pretty much identical to CPMA minus the netcode which is slightly 'off', same item timings and mega timings but actually has a timer (cpma doesn't). Damage numbers are reduced and its on the Quake2 engine. The added bonus is walljumping which involves a separate button which allows you to bounce off a wall (think UT2k4 double tapping off walls). Same weapons as all the quake games, nothing new there. Those are probably the major differences, the movement is also easy as piss so holding a strafe is simple, pretty sure there's an auto-hop enable checkbox somewhere as well. I still prefer Quake but there was a small subset who enjoyed the movement a lot and continued with it, other than that gameplay matches CPMA with weird maps and more forgiving gameplay.

The only thing easier about movement in warsow than cpma is the pogostick jumping. Everything else is something that's not in cpma or finds its place in pretty much the same way, including the way strafejumping works.

From what I remember in CPMA you needed to start off with a good circle-strafe into either normal QW bhoping or switching to drift-style CPM hoping for faster acceleration (600-650 units I think vs max of 500 with normal hopping). In WSW I remember only having to either start out with one of the walljumps and then continue hopping for speed or having to just use VQL style strafing to max out pretty quickly. Haven't played it in a few months though.

Dashing can act as a replacement for circlestrafing, which nobody really minds considering that the "instantly change direction" aspect of dashing causes so many more differences, and the acceleration that you get from strafejumping (diag or perpendicular, either) is essentially the same as CPMA (though subtle differences because old vs new movement).

Well, if someone knows how to rocket jump in TF2. They abuse it. Same thing in Warsow with wall-jumping.

I play this fairly often with teammates and friends. I'm glad it is finally greenlit. I would be normally willing to play if anyone wants to.

CA server with 10+ people. I can't believe it, but it happened. We need more people on this game, and eventually more duelers.

yea i played a bit earlier and saw u guys with the tf.tv tag or whatever. While FFA is pretty fun the instagib i played was horrible because everyone is stupidly good at wall jumping and apparently you have to go fast to instagib someone. havent tried dueling yet. Most servers with people playing seem to be European or something.

I've had a pretty frustrating experience with it so far. All the servers I've tried to connect to have either been passworded or kick me for sv_pure despite being on a fresh install. The game won't launch in fullscreen either for some reason.

I was having a lot of problems with install something about EVERY map file being corrupted. Will probably just wait for steam release.

Tried it, I like it a lot. I don't see how the movement mechanics being easy can hurt the game, if anything they should make for more spectacular shots since everyone will be hopping left and right

I do think they should add a slightly higher cooldown to the dash

Depends on what the devs need to do to make it steam compatible. Technically that means nothing for a barebones release, but I'm confident that warsow's devs would be doing steamworks integration since they have an account system and everything already.

I read somewhere on the forums that the devs wanted to wait until the next major update for the steam release, so it might be a couple months or more. It's free so it's hard to say.
