Invite Player Rule lifting- made any difference?

Just to clarify, my post wasn't an attempt to bash highlander specific teams or players like bonus, it was directed solely at infinite for being a joke of an admin and doing the same hypocritical thing he wants 6's players to stop doing. Also, don't fuck with TLR.

Grambottlepudding_cupIt does bother me a little when some invite players make comments about HL that make the format seem like a complete joke. I could be wrong about this, but it seems like that kind of view sets an example for a lot of other people in the 6s community. Me and some of the people from bonus made an esea open team this season, and I was surprised by how many people tried to troll us or talk shit about us just because we were HL players. I guess shit talk will happen regardless, but I can see why some people who enjoy playing HL would feel ostracized. That's just been my experience in open though.
This paragraph almost perfectly captures what I find to be one of the worst elements of the TF2 community, especially because I remain primarily a highlander player. One of the things people should realize is that growth in 6s can be helped by the highlander community (as pointed out by VickM), in particular by those who seek the type of intensity you find in 6s that isn't in highlander (in part because people keep shitting on highlander as pub play, which is fucking bullshit). By shitting on highlander players for playing highlander you *actively discourage* them from ever moving to a 6s format. Negative reinforcement does nothing good for anybody. The fact that so many threads around highlander seem to devolve into 6s player shitting on highlander is a pathetic testament to the quality of support the highlander community gets from the 6s crowd. To those who regularly contribute to that, please grow up and shove your ego back up your ass (that's as much trash talk as you'll get out of me, lol).

I don't want to paint the whole 6s community with the same brush - obviously there are people (even players in this thread) who understand the merits of highlander. I'd like to give a huge shoutout to those who went to ETS LAN in March who not only didn't look down on me because I was a highlander player but welcomed me into the circle for the weekend and encouraged me to play some 6s scout and have a great time! This environment definitely had me fired about about 6s, although changes in life plans shortly thereafter prevented me from capitalizing on that enthusiasm. An environment like the one I encountered at ETS LAN is something I'd love to see more of here and is something which could bring huge benefit to the community as a whole.

And on that note, nice to see more invite players in Highlander. Just stop being dicks about it.

It'd be nice to not see a person who represents your entire community coming on here and acting like an idiot. Also you can't deny that the pace of HL is much closer to pubbing than it is to 6v6.

You're playing an online competitive video game, there's going to be shit talk no matter what.

I don't want to sound like the biggest jackass here, but I guess I might for saying this.

6's invites are treated like royalty, and I feel like when the light shines on others, I see shit like Plat insulting HL players, or a fuck ton of jerks from the 6's community bash HL. Sorry, but if I keep seeing this, I'm going to uninstall TF2, quit the game, and find something else.

Why let someone else ruin your fun? There will always be people who hold ignorant opinions about everything. Not to mention, I think a vast majority of the schism between the two player bases is really overstated, and I think a lot of the shit-talk you see is hyperbolic for the sake of internet arguing. I doubt that many invite players really think HL is inherently bad. (But it's fair to say that at this point of its evolution, it's a style of gameplay that forgives "bad play" more often than the 6's format.)

saying players that are really good at tf2 are better than players that aren't really good at tf2 is insulting?

man you must fucking hate when teachers grade papers.

nothing plat said was insulting, unless somebody being better at something than somebody else is insulting to you

Plat is solely insulting infinite, like he stated. Infinite tends to make terrible posts that are hard to respond to without bashing him for his ignorance and attitude. If anything you should be uninstalling over infinite, who at this point really just baits the hell out of 6's players.

Just ignore the guy and stop derailing the thread to gang bang. The highlander section here is impossible to read with this all the time...

=============================================

I'm finally looking to start my first season of ESEA after 2-3 seasons of just glancing at it and oddly enough if there weren't highlander and the people I met in the team I wouldn't even consider playing 6s at all. Our team was fortunate enough to be blessed with 2 IM players very early in UGC (s3) and I believe it was a huge impact to my impression of 6s format.

With the invite limit removed, the flood of invite players are going to inspire teammates that have been sitting on the button to pay for premium, especially those already in UGC 6s. Plus the mingling of highlander players (most who've come from pubs and NO ESEA exp.) and Invites is a great thing. There's a lot to learn from 6s that still apply in highlander.

I just wish our invite player would come play/scrim/mentor a couple stuff...

Powah has certainly helped out tangerine this season.
Ruwin has been amazing for -ts-.
GG is making a good showing.
I can't think of other invite players off the top of my head. So yeah, they're good for the metagame. It allows for less stagnation in the higher ranks and lets players that want a change from 6's play competitive tf2 in a different setting.

If somebody has an issue with 6's or HL, they might just . . . not like it. Doesn't mean they lack respect or think the people aren't good in their own right. 6's are a cluster fuck of getting wrecked left and right and the invite players get really amazing at their class because of that. Sadly team fortress 2 has 5 more classes that are played by a lot of players as mains. So of course the invite players, the top of the top of their class are going to look down at a format that doesn't have as harsh of competition. There simply isn't the massive skill difference between absolute top pyros/spies/heavy/engies and high tier players when comparing them to scout/demo/solly.

I really wish HL players would stop acting like all of the invite players are higher-grade bullies picking on them at recess. Grow up, all of you. If they don't like it and they don't respect it and you do, who gives a fuck. Keep your shit alive, you don't need invite TF2 players to keep HL popular or further the future of TF2 or any of that shit. Kill the bad attitudes and just roll with it and just see where shit goes. I'm sure both sides would be amazed at how little the other side actually cares about this pointless elitism and quarreling.

The truth of the matter is that some people are not going to respect a format. They aren't going to like a certain way to play a game. I'm sorry, that's how it works. To be honest, I rarely see invite players making global statements about how HL is some sort of inferior game type and that they're just super special amazing people because they like to conform to 6v6. Is this really such a widespread issue? No offense to any HL players, but I see the accusations way more than I see the actual insults. I'm not even trying to defend invite players or anything but what in the fuck, it's just an endless stream of whining. If they don't like it, WHO CARES? They aren't killing TF2, this endless bickering and elitism attitude (from both sides) is.

It'd be cool if the the players on both sides would stop being dicks about everything and just play the game the way they want to play it.

I'm not going to blame the whole 6s commuunity or invite players like some members may do, but there are a ton of 6s players that come to this Highlander section just to say shit about Highlander.

I'm newer to these forums, so I don't know much, but from what I see most threads here are on topic then a 6s player comes in and makes a joke about HL sucking.

Take this post for example:

kirbyif you have fun playing hl then great, have fun and talk about it. but i don't see why it's suddenly a big deal when it's the opposite and shitty to mention it.

This was in the highlander forum. I'm not sure if he's blind, mentally challenged, or what, but why do members like this even come to this section of the site?

Oh and before anyone calls me a highlanderfag, I play in both HL and 6s as medic. I enjoy them both; maybe HL a little more. What you like to play is just a personal preference and there's no need for there to be constant flaming between the 2 communities. It's supposed to be fun for everyone.

I don't understand why all this butthurt is happening who cares its HL even if theyre invite in 6s that shouldn't mean much for HL since most of the garbage players in HL think they can play high open/IM from a season of plat on pyro.

Taco, when did I say anything at all about HL sucking? I was questioning how people can come to an HL forum and express how awesome the game is to them and how everyone is cool with it, but the second someone comes in and explains why he doesn't like HL, then it's suddenly a shitty thing to say. I've played highlander at least one time only, I wouldn't have room to speak badly about it like you seem to think I'm trying to do.

Taco, I worded it incorrectly then I guess. I was questioning why it's okay to say how awesome HL is, but why it's not okay for someone to explain why they don't like HL. Now I know people will just end up saying something about the way it was presented blah blah, but I've seen people nicely say why they don't like HL and have been bashed on.

Now if you meant something else by your quote then my bad, but it doesn't look like it lol

Though I may not be Taco, I'm very certain that this is one small misunderstanding on your part as what I've drawn from the original quote was that "Why do HL players make it out to be a big deal if people post their dislike of the HL format?" and not "HL is shitty."

I was questioning why it's okay to say how awesome HL is, but why it's not okay for someone to explain why they don't like HL. Now I know people will just end up saying something about the way it was presented blah blah, but I've seen people nicely say why they don't like HL and have been bashed on.

Oh, now I get what you were trying to say lol. Thanks Kave.

But it doesn't bother me that 6s players don't like Highlander at all. It just gets annoying that in every highlander thread some random guy comes in and posts that HL is shitty when that isn't remotely related to the thread topic

Now if there was a thread about "what you like/dislike about Highlander", then I don't care if 6s players bash it, it's their opinions. As long as they aren't derailing all the other threads in this section just to say they don't like the HL format like some of them continuously do

EDIT: also sorry for being a douche to you kirby, I hope you understand what I thought you meant by your first post
