Yao, just wanted to pipe in real quick.

We can't release the 50fps version on YT, YT doesn't support higher frame rates.

We could have asked for funds to pay for Luc to be able to focus on this more, but there were signs pointing to that being a terrible decision. It came up sometime in some posts and people were upset at the notion that we'd fundraise to complete a promised project.

Luc's not surviving off of just eXtv money and I can't justify spending eXtv money on a flight to i49, so we're not eXactly rolling in it.

We promised a documentary and we promised we'd get it done. Apologies to June if he/she feels misled. We needed to find another distribution route besides YouTube and VHX was a great option. We talked to Steam as well, and I guess there technically is still a chance at that.

I hope you guys enjoy it, I hope it'll be another great recruiting tool for this fantastic community.

So there's the reasoning behind the paid version for everyone (June) complaining about this.

However, I think part of what dellort's saying (don't want to put words in peoples' mouths so please correct me if I'm mistaken), and what I was thinking as well, is that if this had been presented as the reason for the optional paid version this wouldn't have felt like some sort of last minute scheme for more revenue

and might have avoided this whole thing altogether. On the whole, I agree with dellort that more openness with the community can prove wonders.

Am I just dumb, or can I not pre-pay for the HQ version now?

I'm pretty sure that was clockwork saying that donations would be pushing it since the documentary then (Jan, 2013) was considered late. The same point still applies; it's been almost a year (which I presume no one expected) and now you want money for the 50 fps version?

Just for the record, most serious frag movies have a free 50 (or 60 or something?) fps version available for download. A lot of people (myself included) probably assumed this would be the case for the documentary as well.

I feel like I'm missing something here. Why are people getting their panties in a bunch about the documentary being "late"?

On a different note, I'm hyped as fuck and totally buying it just to support Luke/eXtv.

I do recall wanting to have the movie released before January of this year. I had no clue exactly how much work Luke would have to do.

Is 36 minutes necessary? I was expecting a frag vid and a few highlights with the players and announcers and stuff.

I don't mind paying the $5, nor do I really agree with june/stalin/dellort that extv was very snakelike, but good lord are some people in this community bandwagoning man-children (woman-child in renhet's case). they're entitled to their opinion, stop acting like anyone who disagrees with your favorite people like sal/lange is automatically wrong.

Renhet's reason for disagreeing has more to do with her experience with shitty art customers, I think.
