MarxistThe black isle classics are solid western RPGs if you've not played them:

Baldurs Gate 1-2 (EE is available on steam + the multiplayer actually works)
Fallout 1-2 (also on steam)
PLanescape torment (the best RPG - though be prepared to "role-play" and not just kill shit and level up a bunch). You'd have to torrent or get it on GoG.
Icewind Dale 1-2(hack and slash kill things level up)

They'll all sink in tons of hours

Knights of the Old Republic 1-2 were pretty good RPGs too.

Some paradox strategy games are pretty fun too depending on how deep you like to go, crusader kings 1 is a pretty solid choice, or Europa Universalis 3, Hearts of Iron 2 if you like playing risk.

If you aren't very old school, and want a mix of RPG and RTS, heroes of might and magic 3 is also a really solid choice that can show why gaming in 1999 was in many ways superior to what we have now.

You will waste a years worth of life trying to know everything about all of these games.
BEST time wasters and GREAT FUCKING GAMES. I'll also recommend Neverwinter Nights 1 and 2 with their expansions(they're third person with the camera behind the character) and maybe the Ogre series (ogre battle and those games, you can emulate them)

terraria/minecraft
binding of isaac
seconding emulators, snes/ps1/n64 all have great games and are emulated fairly well with few glitches

also, score some good cheap games whenever summer sale drops

This is unrelated, but I didn't want to make a thread. Dota 2 is going to be my new time killer. What is the dota 2 equivalent of tf.tv?

DayZ, or DayZ Origins. Both games take up way more time than I'd like to admit, but they're awesomely immersive.

I'm a big fan of roguelikes, like NetHack, Zangband, Dungeon Crawl Stone Soup, and ADOM.

All of which happen to be free, which is pretty sweet.

Rogue legacy claimed my soul pretty completely, at least until Sir Cowan IV made 260k by exploring the entire castle and killing everything inside.

Sanctum 2, Audiosurf, Beat Hazard, Stalker, deus ex, remember me, final fantasy 5-9, Killing Floor's clown mod should be starting soon?, dark souls, binding of isaac, rayman origins, Sonic all-stars racing, System shock, warframe, ace of spades, etc.

there's plenty of good shit on steam

really enjoying this. A little slow to start but the humour carries it well.
