TF tv community servers?

I know they are working on the server list similar to the ones over at natf which is now transferring here(i think). What would be the thought on having actual teamfortress.tv servers where streamers or higher level competitive players have admin to do anything necessary. Also would anyone be willing to donate a public server for the cause. I wouldn't mind putting up a server for it.

On the other hand would it just be too much since there are a billion skial and lotus clan whatever servers which people can already goto?

Finally if the idea is something to be taken into consideration what would the ideal size be ect..... and would anyone else be willing to go with the cause.

I don't know how we would fill it, but I do think it would be neat to have a tf.tv pub server where we could all hang out and pub within our own community. It would be nice for us all to unite somewhere on down time, from UGC players, to lobbiers, to open players and even invite players. Since we're all involved in comp, we could have good maps and server settings as well (I prefer no random crits, no random spread, mostly cp + few payload maps, etc.)

Ideal size I think would be 24 players.

Could be helpful for getting pubbers into comp as well and spreading the word :) Especially if a lot of streamers play there.

I think this is a great idea. Since recently, as a community, we have been trying to get the word out about competitive TF2, I think this is a relatively easy and overlooked way to go about doing that.
With a place for pubbers to hang out with comp players and play video games, hopefully at least some of the massive pub community would show interest in the competitive side of TF2.
I'll help out in any way I can.

I'm wary of having TF.TV host their own game servers.

I don't think it actually accomplishes all that much for the amount of effort put into them, and frequently these kind of endeavors don't really work out. How many times have you guys actually gone to Skial.com or NewbsTF2.com just because you played on their servers?

MGE hosted many of their own servers, and the MGEMod servers were the only ones to fill up (and that was only because they had 'the' stats database back before people hosted their own). eXtv has several of their own servers, yet only the DM servers fill up regularly (and this is because they were sort of inherited from AG, and at one point those were the 'official' DM servers back before tons of people started hosting their own).

That said, this could be done with little monetary risk and I would not mind setting up the server(s) if we got them.

Pro Like Chro is one of the main reasons I got into 6's TF2 way back in the day. I would support something like that.

if streamers pubbed in them consistently the servers should populate. map cycle might be the trickiest part.

I've got mixed feelings about the idea. I feel like if you try to group together all the streamers into one server it would bring less attention to comptf2 than playing on different servers. An example how things usually play out when a high-level player joins a pub is (not always):

"Hey, you're really good. Do you play on a team?"

From there the conversation normally snowballs into talk of competitive TF2 in general and you can lead players to teamfortress.tv, newbie mix, lobby, tf2.pug, etc.

I'm not saying the idea of having teamfortress.tv servers in general is a poor one. As with any pre-existing community server, people who frequent the server are going to be a part of that community. If we have teamfortress.tv servers they're going to be the go-to pub servers of many people on this forum. When you have a ton of competitive players populating a pub server you're going to have an average skill level that's much higher than ones of a pub. It's not going to be very appealing for new players to want to play with a bunch of people who play at a competitive level.

Before I got into comp I ONLY played on RAGE arena servers. I would have personally never got into competitive if the whole comp scene was condensed to only playing in one pub. This is an extreme, I know not everyone is going to solely pub on tf.tv servers - but I feel a majority might.

TL;DR - If teamfortress.tv is meant to serve as a hub for competitive TF2 as a whole, it might not be wise to condense the playerbase into a few servers to gain exposure.

no crits/dmg spread/bullet spread

map rotation:
pl_badwater
cp_badlands
cp_freight (idk i like it in pubs lol)
cp_pro_viaduct
cp_snakewater
some other pl map. (frontier maybe?)
cp_gravelpit

We could have a thing where people that donate have a green name or something on the site. I'm guessing there will be quite a few people willing to do it just for something silly like that.

it'd actually kinda be nice to have a server where viewers and streamers could kinda gravitate to if in the pubbing mood.

I'm down for hosting a few servers. However, with my other servers not being used much (read: at all), I don't think my servers would do any different

Streamers should really be wary of pubbing with fans. Open your console when someone joins the server, and it broadcasts your fucking IP to the entire server. DDOS city. You'd have to be running on a VPN or proxy for it to be safe.

That's not true. Some servers do have mods (like HLStatsX and shit) that will broadcast your IP to chat though.

The only way that I know for someone to get your IP is for them to have rcon access to the server.

i used to play counter strike and there was this mod named brush and as the title suggested the objective was to rush b bomb site, maybe if we got someone to make a mod that simulated a few scenarios in the map like pushing holding and mid fights we could have a tf.tv server for it.

also, i have 2 nerd stars now :D

I'll setup a base server for a test run, then contact one of the guys above for whoever would want to config it.

I will leave it among them to spread the rcon / administration type stuff around.

This is a great suggestion.

Right now I only play on STAR's server which, I believe, is the highest level pub but it would be great if there are more pubs at a higher level.

I'd be willing to throw in monthly money to mantain a community tf.tv server, up to US$40. I've never set up a server tho, but if any of you is serious, add me on steam and we'll talk it out.

It's good to see all the feedback. Before throwing in money and buying things, i have a test server up. Just needs config, then a release post will be done. This way no one will be spending anything or be on a limb or feel they lost anything in the start. Give it a month see how it runs, then go into buying. Also going to contact Fog, lang, and others aka tragic ect....
