Hi there, I am an admin for ETF2L and one of the organisers of the HL Nations Cup, for both the 6v6 and Highlander nations cup we would only allow recognised countries make a National team. Since Quebec is a province of Canada, your only choice would be to apply for the Canadian national team captaincy and pick from within there (some of the best TF2 talent comes from Canada).

If we did let Quebec participate as a provident state, nothing would stop other's from making State or Province teams, for example any American could make a Team California or Team Florida side, any British person could make a Team London or Team Northamptonshire or Team Falkland Islands...etc etc.

Thought I would make this post incase you were planning on attempting to sign up a National team as Quebec because we would not allow you to sign them up.

Québec is a recognized nation whitin Canada, with a distinct language: french and a distinct people.
I believe there was a team Wales, a team England and a team Scotland in the last nations cup. Québec has pretty much the same status as Wales or Scotland whitin the UK, AND it has its own language and culture. It's definitely a nation. I dont see why a nation wouldn't be allowed to play in a nation cup.

Scotland and Wales are countries, though. Quebec is not a country.

A man and a Quebecer are drinking in a bar. The Quebecer turns to tell the man about his latest conquest in bed.

(With accent) "Last night, I brought a woman home! And, because I am STRONG like Quebec, I carried her all the way home with one arm!"

The man nods, slightly impressed.

"And, because I am PROUD like Quebec, I spoke only French to her while I ripped her clothes off!"

The man nods again, sort of in awe.

"And, because I am INDEPENDANT like Quebec, I went into the corner and masturbated!"

I admire what ETF2L is doing, they do not want to cause an international incident but letting "not even real country" play against the titans of the nations cup. Sorry to say but Quebecois stands little chance against the pride of Egypt which is there tf2 team. I fear the Romanians would withdraw from the nations cup all together based on their previous requests to only play top tier.

Not technically true, although as stated it has been recognised as a country by the Canadian House of Commons, it hasn't been recognised as a sovereign state in it's own right by the UN or any other country. However, we're a gaming league not the European Union, so we're not as fussed. If you can find yourself a team of people, we will discuss the eligibility of allowing Quebec to participate as a Nation in this tournament. However the worry still applies, where do we draw the line? On Provinces? States? Counties? You surely can see the difficulty it puts us in...

But I will make a discussion about it on the Admin forums and we will have a look. :)

I tend to favor Hildreth here, each case should be brought up individually as to whether a subdivision of a country should play or not and what specifically makes their case worthy of inclusion.

Though admittedly a Team Texas might be a bit OP...

Afaik there won't be a team wales or scotland this time, only team UK. Probably because we threatened to found the glorious team BAVARIA if they are allowed to.

how come quebec gets a flag but i cant get an alberta flag?

Alberta has its own unique culture of pumping vast quantities of money out of the ground and using that money to buy full-ton diesel pickup trucks.

A nation is just a group of people united by a sense of belonging to a certain culture. It's not necessarily a recognized country or state, it doesn't even have geographical limitations. By that logic, this very forum is a nation, in a sense. You can pull this rubberband as far as you want.
Having said that, Québec still didn't successfully separate from Canada.

Politically, Quebec isn't recognized by the UN or the majority of sovereign nations. That being said, there are quite a few nations not recognized by the rest of the world, like Tibet, Palestine, or certain autonomous oblasts in Russia.
