Mouse acting up

Lately the past few days, my mouse has been acting up. It's not a gamer mouse like a deathadder or zowie, just a regular house mouse that's probably 800DPI.

Pretty much what happens is, randomly it would stop completely and then a few seconds later let me use/control it again. This happens when I'm on the desktop/browsing and in any game(happened continously in Dota 2 though). I been using this mouse for about 3 years now and it's always done good, don't know why it would randomly choose now to act up. If it helps, I also use the TF2 mousepad: http://www.amazon.com/TeamFortress-2-Lineup-BattleMat-Mousepad/dp/B001D3WXGM
As someone suggested before it may have to do something with the colors and the sensor?
Things I tried so far is taking out the USB and blowing into it, putting it into different ports, and restarting computer. It also says the drivers are already updated to it's best.

If you need any other info feel free to ask, thanks for any help and advice, Have a good day!
EDIT: This is the mouse I use: http://www.gigaweb.com/products/view/70945

Try cleaning the gunk on the laser, maybe something broke? Most likely the wire. That's all I got for ya. It happens with my G5 and it's most likely a wire problem

I actually clean up the gunk daily under my mouse, but never really went as deep into the center, I'll try that. I don't know about the wire, but I do know that whenever my mouse would stop randomly and come back, the windows sound for like a device connecting comes up.

Sounds like a fucked wire, you could try replacing it but I'd just buy a new mouse.

When I was trying to clean off the sensor like icTus said, I noticed that it made the windows sound, I continued to lift up and down the mouse and it would continue to do so. I'm guessing that's probably because of the wire like you both said :C. I guess i might have to look into a new mouse. I been thinking about deathadder for the past few years, I don't have to use the Razer Synapse 2.0 program do I? I really just want to be able to put the mouse in and play immediately without problems.

The Zowie EC1/EC2 is basically a DeathAdder without drivers. 100% plug-and-play. Very similar shape to the DeathAdder, and comes with spare feet. I recommend it if you're thinking of replacing. Do consult the other mouse help threads first, though.

I been thinking about the Zowie or Deathadder, my 2nd thoughts were on the SteelSeries Sensei which I think people said were good? Also, I wish someone made a central mouse thread where they put on the top 10 mouses that people are currently using, pros and cons for each, and they could plus frag their mouse for each post to see which mouse is used alot to get an idea of what's good and bad.
Do they sell the Zowie in stores? I think it's european.

Love my zowie AM, but I did have to order it online. The sensei is a good mouse but I believe it has a laser sensor and unless you need the lan features such as the screen on the bottom I think it costs far too much.

Zowie EC1/2 and AM/FK are all great mice with the same great optical sensor but different weight/shape etc. I'd advice looking on their site or youtube or whatever to see which you'd prefer. Hoping to get an FK myself when I can afford one.
The deathadder is also really popular but the Steelseries Sensei (which I have now) is reported to have slight positive acceleration (I use accel anyway so I wouldn't know) and laser sensors are generally not as good as optical ones. I also don't like the feel of it and want a lighter mouse and the FK is similar in shape to it.
Beside the Zowie mice and Deathadder, the other most commonly recommended mice are the Logitech G400 and the WMO (might be a bit harder to get one of these though).

Thank you all for the help and suggestions. I took out my mouse, cleaned the wire, and moved it around as I prayed. It seems to be working now, I'll just try not to lift up my mouse alot.
