So I noticed when watching the last LAN on the esea_orange stream there was a splash screen that showed the team name, player names, and team image. I also noticed there wasn't anything like that whenever we streamed on the teamfortresstv twitch channel. I figure something like this would help viewers figure out the player names and what class they're playing alot easier/quicker than waiting on the casters/players to fill the server.

So with my limited photoshop skills I managed to make a pretty lame rendition of what i'm talking about. http://i.imgur.com/kmiYizr.jpg

Now, my question to ya'll is would something like this help maybe improve stream quality? Also I don't mind making these if there is demand, although I would like criticism on making it better/less cheesy.

EDIT: Class icons over player models http://i.imgur.com/izdnbHl.jpg

Looks great, but you might want to change the soldier icon so that the rocket launcher is more clearly defined in the silhouette. As it is now it looks a little bit blobby.

Noted. Although I guess the better question is would people rather have class icons or player models?

Class icons are probably better, especially for people who watch streams at a lower resolution.

This is really nice! I agree that class icons would be better and that the soldier should probably be holding the rocket launcher, since right now the silhouette almost like a Heavy.

I actually think the color scheme looks nice, but if this were to be included in official tf.tv streams, you might want to have it match the lighter theme that is already in use.

or put the words on the preexisting background (viaduct in this one, it changes) and have the background still change (not sure how this could be done but I'm sure it's possible).

Would it be possible to use different icons for pocket/roamer soldier? Maybe have the solder midjump for roamer, and the pocket have the medics beam connect to him?

Just a random idea.

I really like the idea, always thought the pre-game splashes on ESEA streams added a lot to the casts. Though you should probably try to keep TF.tv's (very slick) aesthetic intact instead of trying to mimic the ESEA graphics' style so much, IMO.

Here's a less busy version of the ESEA logo (white and black text versions) that you can try using:
http://abload.de/img/esea_logocylqt.png

I have some ideas on how to integrate roster lists on top of the current look of TF.tv's casts... if it's not overstepping I could try throwing together a mockup building on your images tomorrow?

I'm pretty much the last person you'd ever want using photoshop, but I messed around with it and tried to make it feel tighter. Here's what I've got:

The Red/Blue split for the class icons makes me kind of disoriented. I don't know if it's just me.

I was going to make them the same color as the body text... But then I realized that I didn't even have the photoshop skills to do that, so I just used half of each image >.<

ExMachinaI have some ideas on how to integrate roster lists on top of the current look of TF.tv's casts... if it's not overstepping I could try throwing together a mockup building on your images tomorrow?

That would be fantastic. Now regarding aesthetics, would it be better to just get rid of the background and give the text like an outline? That way I would assume everything would be visible/readable all the while still looking at the moving background used on stream.

I'd personally like this, if the background is moving even a little bit it looks better to me than a static black background or even one that changes every couple minutes.

So I copied shadowmatter's format and addressed the aesthetics advice and came up with this:

Again criticism is appreciated. Personally I feel like the esea logo is awkwardly placed... need to find a better placement.

maybe put the ESEA logo on both sides directly to the left and right instead of in the upper portion
IMO, make the class icons white/off-white, and make the names the colour of the team they are on

I have literally no idea how you'd do this - because I know nothing of graphic design... But how hard would it be for somebody to make a graphic that would be super imposed on the cast so like after the initial "waiting for match to start" screen or adverts or whatever we decide to do we could get some sweet graphics of the TF.TV logo getting exploded/meat shot and exploding or something cool like that - it'd sex things up IMO plastic chair league sc2proleague has some really cool ones that they run prior to matches starting for example.

I think the font could be better on the "HRG" and "AG"

the gradients are really, really harsh. maybe they'd look better with horizontal gradients with more subtle shades

This is what I came up with using your layout but trying to follow TF.tv's text style.
Not exact matches, but obviously if this idea pans out you can ask whoever made the existing stream assets about what fonts and colors they've used. :P

I pulled the ESEA logo down to the bottom left under the match info and had to rearrange the team logos/names a little bit so the player names + class emblems could be as large as possible.

Amazing. I could definitely see this on stream. I guess my only question is will we see it (or something similar) on stream?

I hope you're not bothered by myself posting this in your thread -- if so, then apologies in advance -- but I was pretty intrigued with your idea of a splash screen with team and player names. I make no claim that I am a professional or an expert at Photoshop, but I spent a little bit of time putting together a basic mockup of some ideas I had in my mind.

http://i.imgur.com/pyF3QBs.jpg

Most of the ideas and colors for the mockup were derived from the modular design of the TF.tv website, which I tried to recreate, rather unsuccessfully. The splash screen is also fully integrable onto any stream; it can be overlayed on top of gameplay and footage, like so:

http://i.imgur.com/iXbXTbS.jpg
http://i.imgur.com/CSxqEZ6.jpg
http://i.imgur.com/SZyghqc.jpg

Any suggestions? I'm aware it's missing a section for the commentators and cameraman, but that can be retrofitted into the design perfectly fine in the future.
