within the past week and a half ive been trying to get into comp tf2, i have over 2000 hours in the game [ignoring the fact that i suck loool] and i wanted to throw my hat into the ring, but i could never find anyplace to start, tf2center is dead and i don't think im ready to sign up for a team yet at all,

i know you guys must get this a lot but where or how exactly do i start?

yeah it's still active. to add to ur answer, one can join tf2cc to regularly play pick-up games for practice once one gets a hold of the basics from newbie mixes

Like #2 was saying, https://newbie.tf/ is a great way to get started learning and playing competitive TF2. That link is the website of TF2 Newbie Mixes. Besides the info on that page, I'll give out some additional info here.
Every Friday night, we host "Newbie Mixes" which are organized Pick-up Games (PUGS) where a more experienced comp TF2 player (RGL IM Playoffs or higher) will teach and guide you through playing competitively. Also, we host a "Team Drive" where newer players can sign up (either by themselves or with 1-5 additional people) to be placed onto a team and given an experienced coach who will guide you through a full 8-week season of competitive TF2, teaching you all of the basics. All of this is completely free, so feel free to join if you are at all curious or interested. Our Discord server (https://discord.gg/9uDQNcs) is the easiest way to participate and ask questions on anything related to TF2 Competitive or Newbie Mixes.

TL;DR Go to the website (https://newbie.tf/) and/or join the discord (https://discord.gg/9uDQNcs) for the easiest way to get into TF2 Competitive :)

if u don’t think ur ready to join a team (next season is a ways away anyway), u can always just ask to ring for NC teams whenever u have time

if u do that and watch some basic overview guides for your class and the core maps u should be more than ready to play on a team by the time the season starts

skip newbie mixes if you have that many hours honestly. When I started playing comp, I had less than 1k hours, but I could still easily skip to UGC silver in my first season. I reckon that with 2k hours, you could probably do something similar. I recommend finding a team in UGC in at least the iron or steel division and playing with them.

hours in tf2 mean nothing. i had like 4k before I started playing comp and it didn't make me any better at the game than someone starting on tf2center at 500 hours

Honestly, I would just recommend joining a newcomer team. The best way to get into comp is to simply jump in. I had 400 hours when I started playing comp. If the commitment is too much, then you could be a sub and participate in any map or demo reviews they do. "For the things we have to learn before we can do them, we learn by doing them." -Aristotle

Very good advice in this thread. You just have to go and do it because the only way to learn is to actually play. I also highly suggest watching some POV demos of players that are playing your class in 6s. It will
Help you understand what your “job” is during 6s gameplay.
