Bundescup emerges from the Mist

The TF2 Bundescup is here.

The German-hosted cup is open to German players, players who live in Germany, or any German speaker. But this cup will be run a bit different than other cups we’ve seen throughout this year.

Firstly, the cup is using a PugChamp-esque drafting system. Players sign up and list what classes they would like to play, and then will be drafted into teams by a number of captains. These drafted teams are then split into two groups, with a group phase of Bo1s planned. The winner of the group will advance directly into the Semi-Finals, with the 2nd and 3rd placed team fighting it out for the other spot. Everything in the post-group stages will be played as a Bo3.

The Cup is generally planned to use the ruleset of ETF2L’s S37, however, there are a key few differences. Group-phase seeding will have no effect on the post-group stages. That means that instead of seeding determining who picks the first map, there will be a medic saw fight and the winner gets first pick. Loser picks a second and winner picks the final map. So get started on practicing those swings.

One final rule to keep in mind that only 3 players from an already existing ETF2L team may play together, to avoid a team queueing up and picking each other.

Regeln
Note: Not all rules have been translated into English for this article.

The map-pool is also slightly different from ETF2L’s S37 map-pool, with the only KoTH map (Product) being swapped out for Logjam.

Finally, the cup will take place on the 19th and 20th of December, during the afternoon and evening.

So what if you want to sign up or just get to know the German community a bit better? Head over to this Discord. There’s already been 60 applicants and that is what the Cup is planning to operate with, but subs could easily be needed and there’s a chance some spots open up after the “Check-In”.

If you need any more convincing, check out this trailer made for the Cup, which is up to every professional standard imaginable,

Also check out the drafting process, which will be casted tonight (08/12) at 22.30 CEST on Dypsilon_'s Twitch channel.
