Title. I took the keycaps off and cleaned what I could, I thought I got it all but a few minutes later the lower keys like windows key control . ? started either randomly being spammed or not working. I also noticed fluid coming out of the seam at the bottom so I unplugged and disassembled it but I can't get to the actual moisture since it's sandwiched between the front white board (pics from reddit guide, not mine)

And the rear black board

Which don't come apart so I can't dry it off manually. I flipped it so whatever can leak out just leaks out, but my question is, should I just let it dry like that, or should I try a hair dryer, or should I try spraying 96% alcohol between the 2 boards so it dissolves whatever residue the alcohol leaves? Help :(

bro are you just spraying alcohol on them and letting it dissolve? lmao

put them in a tray and submerge them in the highest % iso alcohol you can find then scrub all surfaces with a soft bristle brush. after a thorough cleaning place on a towel and let air dry for a couple of hours. ensure everything is 100% dry before plugging in the power.

Is ethanol as good as isopropyl? I have a bunch of 96% ethanol at home but no isopropyl

Edit: just called every pharmacy near me and they all only have ethanol no iso

Whenever you spill something on a keyboard there is a solid chance that it has died forever. That's the "random spamming" because electrical magic is going on. The best practice is to immediately unplug the keyboard and leave it upside down for several days, and then see what you've got to work with from there. Submerging in alcohol can work, but because the failure rate in my experience is so high I usually don't bother going that far. If it's still doing random stuff 72+ hours after the incident having been left upside down, it's probably FUBAR.

ethanol is fine it doesn't really matter as long as it does not leave a residue. you can even use soap and water in a bathtub but this is a little harder because you have to ensure it is 100% dry before plugging everything back on. if you decide to do that consider leaving it on a towel outside in the sun for at least an hour on both sides or until you are confident it is bone dry.

Did the alcohol bath (for anyone curious, you need less than 1 liter if you're doing it in something shallow, I used a food tray thats about 2 cm deep). I also rinsed it out with alcohol a few times. I'll give it a day or so to dry, will report results tomorrow. Thanks hooli

Pray for me *EDIT* pray emojis not showing up there goes my joke

Update: used my hair dryer on it a bunch of times spread out over the last 5 hours so I don't heat it up too much. Was gonna wait till morning but I'm an impatient moron so I decided to test it rn without putting it together.

All the keys work perfectly except for the + key. That one takes a few tries or holding it down with more force to get it going. I'll try using the hairdryer over it and leaving it till morning, hopefully it gets fixed too. If it doesn't, any suggestions?

Edit: held the switch down with a pen and blowdried it for a minute and it works now. Thanks again dudes
