On the off-chance anyone here cares about football.

Officiating this whole weekend has been awful, but the monday night game really took the cake.

A flagrantly blown call was made, reviewed, upheld, and directly cost the packers the game. Im not a packers fan (i did pick them to win though), but this was just absolutely the worst officiated game I have ever seen.

Oh come on, the last catch was a tossup.
The reffing really is shitty though, when a team can have less yardage than the refs do and still win it says something.

I am a huge Seahawks fan and that game was so shitty. There were so many awful calls and awful no calls for both sides. Honestly Green Bay should have won and it's shitty that a game ended like that.

It's extremely embarrassing and idk how the NFL could possibly keep this up another week.

but fuck you guys go seahawks

Most hilarious refereeing I've ever seen. I didn't have a horse in that race, but holy shit that game had some of the worst calls I've ever seen, including an obvious offensive pass interference which called as defensive netting the seahawks a cool 37 (I think) yards. Also that ridiculous touchdown call, which even the commentators were going "what the actual fuck" over.

“Referee Wayne Elliott determined that no indisputable visual evidence existed to overturn the call on the field, and as a result, the on-field ruling of touchdown stood. The NFL Officiating Department reviewed the video today and supports the decision not to overturn the on-field ruling following the instant replay review.

“The result of the game is final.”

You do know that every scoring play is reviewed by the people upstairs...It was simultaneous possession when Tate and Jennings first hit the ground, and simultaneous possession always favours the team on offense. There should have been an offensive pass interference call though, but penalties aren't reviewable.

It's very unlikely that the scabs are going away this season. NFL is trying to show the players/coaches/etc that they don't have to give into a demand when the union calls for one. It's not like they were asking for too much anyways. Kinda bullshit that those tiny demands wont be given, while they make billions per year.

The NFL rule book states that simultaneous possession only occurs when both players come into possession of the ball at the same instant. When one players gains control of the ball, and another player subsequently attempts to gain possesion, then there is no simultaneous possession.

Jennings caught that ball.

The call was upheld after review because the (incorrect) ruling on the field of simultaneous possession isnt reviewable for some reason.

Obviously the missed offensive PI call should havce ended the game as well.

What I dont understand is why the ref who (correctly) signalled for a interception-caused touchback, didnt stick to his guns and say it was not a touchdown.

My guess is that, since every scroing play is reviewed, one of the officials in the conference said to just call it a touchdown so they can review it. The probalem is that none of them knew that the simultaneous possession call isnt reviewable. But that might be giving the refs too much credit so who the fuck knows.

i give it two weeks until the real refs are back. The complaints will climb up the ladder and GM's will start bitching at the NFL.

Your guess would be incorrect. They also review every turn over as well. Either way the play was getting reviewed.

Two things I want people to stop and think about. You literally CANNOT go to any sports site without EVERYONE shitting on Goodell and the scabs, but in full actuality to you understand WHY the refs are having labor disputes? Let me clarify.

1. The NFL sets X money aside for the refs as a whole every year, thats X% of Y total money they make. The problem here (that NO ONE seems to understand, they just blindly bitch about the refs) is that the NFL wanted to bring in ONE MORE CREW and still keep the same X%. Now normally it would be ok to split the X between more people, because you'd make up for it by increasing the X.

They didn't, they wanted to split the same pie into more slices, so until you truly understand why the refs refused then you have no right to just bandwagon and complain about the scab refs.

2. It makes me sick how many people think that this is Goodells fault, sure he should resign for a bunch of other reasons but this is not one of them. He literally is at the mercy of the owners. I honestly am getting tired of reading deadspin or grantland, let alone PFT and seeing 10,000 articles every day blaming him. Makes me go fucking batty.

Now in the end it's really sad what is going on here in the NFL, but there's really not much anyone can do about it. It doesn't matter how many articles, or angry fans blindly want the regular refs back (without even understanding why they are gone) nothing will be done any time soon. It's a money issue, and that my friends is much bigger than angry fans. Do I agree with how things are going though? No.

Do I bitch about how refs cost my team (Steelers) the game? No. The Steelers 'got away' with just as many calls as the Raiders, which is how it would be normally with standard refs. This whole fucking scab ref ordeal is 20% them being 'lesser quality' refs and 80% fucking stupid mob mentality.

God damn it I love NFL and this has gotten me riled up lmao.

Cheers.

P.S. You know who I really miss? Ed Hochuli. I would let him have his way with me, that sexy large armed brute.

No, the labor dispute is about so much more than this. I think the main sticking point right now is probably the issue of pension v 401(k). The NFL wants to move away from the pension model and towards the 401(k) contribution model, like many major companies are doing these days. The refs who have come up under the pension model want their pensions to be grandfathered in if the league moves to a 401(k). There are also many more facets, including the league wanting to institute more checks-and-balances for ref performance, instituting full-time crews, and salary changes among others.
