Game just came out and I'm having a blast. Basically, Castlevania style roguelike(ISH) game. Your character starts out super weak, and you die a lot. But, every time you die you use your gold to buy upgrades to make your next character more powerful. Grind for a long time and you'll eventually become strong enough to kill bosses, and so forth.

Just saw a handful of indie games that I was considering picking up (Storm, this, legends of dawn, castlestorm)

Is this worth the $15 though? I still need to finish up the sanctum dlc and magrunner so I don't want to OD especially with the inevitable summer sale around the corner.

I think its worth it, but you have to know what kind of game your getting. Its roguelite (so random elements, luck based), its grindy as all hell (you die and die and die, and you can't save money between missions so if you have a bad run you end up not really making any money and have to run again), and its super finicky bullet hell platforming (bullets fucking everywhere, enemies flying at your face etc etc). I think you can definitely wait to play it, its not going to change much before sales or anything.

I've played about 2 hours of it and its super addictive. It has the most ridiculous "JUST ONE MORE RUN, JUST ONE MORE!" that I've ever encountered.

I got Unepic recently and that was pretty fun too. I'll probably get it eventually.

Just to clarify - you mean roguelike, not lite, right?

re: never heard of roguelite, so no idea what you're talking about unless it's a typo.

He means roguelike. Was watching Mesr play this yesterday and it seems very, very fun.

Rogue-like games are those that resemble the game Rogue (1980). The key features are randomized dungeons, tile-based movement, and permadeath (there are more features but these are the most notable).

Rogue-lite games are those that possess some, but not all the features of a rogue-like.

Rogue Legacy is a rogue-lite because it is real-time, not tile-based, and death is only pseudo-permanent, as you keep money and upgrades on death.

Either way, I have heard good things about it, might buy it myself.

I know what a roguelike is. I have played Rogue, Hack & Nethack quite extensively.

I also read up about Rogue Legacy and that the game is actually a 'roguelite', so that was my mistake.

carry on.

I watched Star_'s run of it and it looks really fun to me. I'm thinking about buying. On the other hand it costs 14 bucks and I already saw all bosses. If I buy it I know I'm gonna be obsessed about beating Star_'s time and putting it on youtube.

Watching those speedruns makes me depressed. I went through 100+ children before I beat the last boss.

I'm hooked on murdering everything in a room D:

THE LEGENDARY ONE DAY LONG WORLD RECORD.

On another note, I got this game and let me warn you, the speedruns make this look WAY easier than it is.

Or maybe I just suck...
