Congrats to the Blackhawks, that was a hell of a way to win the cup.

Since the NHL playoff thread was pretty popular I figured this might be a good thread for all us hockey junkies.

Ill get things started...

Flyers buying out Briere AND Bryzgalov (thank christ).

As a die hard flyers fan I hate to see Briere go. He's one of my favorite players, and a genuinely nice guy. It makes sense from a business standpoint, but still a bummer. I woke up to the news of the bryzgalov buyout. I have a bottle of champaign on ice for after work.

I still like Briere. Getting old, but is definitely a go to guy in the playoffs.
Edit: As a Blues fan, I'm glad to see Berglund get an extension. We have a great core of young players, I just hope we trade Halak for a pure goal scorer, as Halak has supposedly been lots of trouble in the locker room.

Yeah the flyers have a ton of cap space to work with now after the buyouts. Also. When the season starts and pronger goes on the long term injured list that gives them another 9mil to play with. Rumors have bobby ryan heading here. That would be nice, but we still need a replacement for pronger to lead our D, and a goalie. I have a feeling they make a move for luongo.

A Voracek-Giroux-Ryan line would be pretty nasty.

Letang will be traded, methinks. He'll probably command 7mm+ and I don't see him being worth it. Interested to see what we get for him.

The Bryz buyout doesn't surprise me. It also won't surprise me if he wins the Vezina next year either.

Also, I feel bad for any 'nucks fans. Torts is a disaster.

What do you all think of the Tortorella and Alian Vigneault switch. Personally I think that the Rangers shouldn't have fired torts, he did a great job and won a cup with the Lightning, and he brought the Rangers to the 2nd round of the playoffs.

As for him in Vancouver, I don't think thats his hard working kind of team. They eaither come to play, or don;t at all. He sure will have no one like Callahan. The Kanucks aren't a grind hard, balls to the wall team like the Rangers, he might have a hard time with his rugged coaching style. I don't know enough about Alian Vigneault to state an opinion, however I've heard he's a good match for the Rangers.

And as a Pens fan myself, I am disappointed in the players.

I hope we don't resign Letang...over rated imo. Not worth the money he will want.

The rangers players hated tortorella, at least from a couple different reports I've heard

Not so sure about the Bryz buyout too, he has his moments where he just loses himself but if they can get him going, hes a hell of a goalie.

I don't want to see Letang go. Hes an excellent offensive defenseman but i'd be surprised if your wrong and money doesn't get the best of him.

Haha, that line would be devastating. Also don't forget about our other young forwards. Sean Couturier had a rough sophomore season this time around (altho partially due to the team being a disaster in general), but in his rookie year he made malkin his bitch in the playoffs lol. Schenn, read, voracek... So much young skill up front. I wouldn't be shocked to see couts, schenn, or read go as part of a deal for a top d-man (especially if the bobby ryan trade happens)

torts coach of the year all years really hope he works w/ vancouver, seems to me that if he can get the players buying in that type of personality might be just what they need but if they don't buy in that is going to be a gong show

either way should be entertaining as all hell can't wait for the vancouver pressers next season

Torts is a good coach, altho he does have rage issues. The rangers have been getting better every year, and when they went all in on Nash last year that was supposed to put them over the top. It didnt work out, someone needs to answer for it. The rangers put the blame on him in an attempt to explain why they didnt win the cup this year. That's hockey for you.

Biggest issue for you guys is consistency. Also goaltending. You need a consistent guy that can handle the Philly fans. They're fucking crazy.

ryan miller gone, thomas vanek gone, both over the summer if not, by the deadline next season.

in terms of summer moves, I don't think mike smith will resign in yoteland
yandle will get packaged since oel is turning into a stud

dallas will get some defensive minded vets to cater to lindy ruff's style

the canucks will try to unload luongo, but no gm in their right mind will pay anything of value for that horrible 9 year contract.

Phili will make some moves, they just bought out HUMENGUS BEEG and briere will be b/o freeing up a ton of room, DONT BE SUPRISED TO SEE COUTUIER dealt for a good young dman (yandle is a good example)

ryan is always on the block, let the rumors continue, he wont be traded.

the oilers will try to pick up a top 4, but they will fail because they have a love affair with their kids.

I keep hearing a lot of speculation that neon dion is on the block, but nobody is going to pay nonnis's price for that washed up flat face. burke4ever

bob got offered 10m a year by SKA in the khl, if he is smart he takes that and runs, the poor jackets are getting dicked over once again.

If holmgren takes luu's contract after just buying out byrz's i would literally shit my pants. Luongo is obviously better, but the age of high paid goalies is DYING. 9 years at 5.5 with the new CBA cap is team suicide. Not to mention he is going to be well into his 40s when the contract expires.

Welcome to philly. We make horrible trades. Literally everyone we trade away ends up winning a cup. Im not saying i want them to go after luongo, but they might.

Personally, id like to see if they could convince tim thomas to come play a season here. Hes 40, but still good. Pick him up cheap for 1 year, help him mentor steve mason along, and see whats available next season.

Just a few updates:

Avs get Alex Tanguay and Cory Sarich from Calgary in return for David Jones and Shane O'Brien.

Letang rejects a long term contract from the Pens.

Tampa is to buy out Lecavelier.

Alfredsson is to play one more season with Ottawa.

Calgary offers 5 million gallons of fresh water for Luongo. Gillis asking for another 1/2 mil, but I don't think that's gonna happen in this year's market.

Lecavalier to the Leafs.

Pls :( need a center, hopefully not a long term deal

Also Ference would be a nice add, or Lydman.

Is Brad Richards going to be bought out by the Rangers or will he stay

D A V I D J O N E S is arguably the most underrated player in the NHL, and SOB is dumber than a post but still manages to be better than Cory "The Human Eraser" Sarich.

We will sign Mr.Universe to a one year deal as well.

prepare you butt rest of the NHL.

as for the above post, Richards will be bought out and Ference is terrible. You don't want him. Lydman is ok tho.

Torts to Vancouver is either going to reinvigorate them to the top or completely implode the team. The Sedins were apparently very vocal about picking him up and most of the veterans were asked about him so the locker room seems to be on similar pages about what they want. If anyone is going to dislike the pickup it'll probably be Kesler.

The one thing that Torts is going to do is try and whip this team into shape and give a damn again. Anyone who watched the previous season and this one know the team did not care after losing the Finals to Boston. The 2011-2012 season was so bad because for large amounts of the season the team looked like they didn't care. Too bad they had enough talent to win a weak NW Division and again for this season. It was awful watching the 2010-2011 playing their hearts out to go to this current iteration where it looked like no one cared.

The other thing that can make or break them is obviously gonna be Luongo as well as Ballard/Booth. Luongo needs to go and one of Ballard/Booth needs to go or else this core is getting dismantled with a key core piece leaving. Hopefully the rumored Luongo-DiPietro swap happens and the Canucks get some decent prospect or draft pick. Team is nearly as bad as Calgary is in regards to youth.

Lets get this shit going.. who's pumped for tomorrow. My mock.
Colorado - Mackinnon
Florida - Barkov

Jersey - Wennberg
Dallas - Shinkaruk
Phili - Zadorov

I'm not going more than 16, because I know there will be a ton of movement in the late first.

Honestly, i know how much nucks fans are going to hate to admit it.. but it is way more likely that schneider is moved before luongo.

Team is nearly as bad as Calgary is in regards to youth.[/quote]

Honestly, i know how much nucks fans are going to hate to admit it.. but it is way more likely that schneider is moved before luongo.

Yeah I was just reading about that. Luongo is going to be tough to trade away because of that contract. He is a really good goalie tho, so trading Schneider could potentially help get them a good player. I'm sure lots of teams would kill to get their hands on a good young goalie like him with an affordable price tag. I'm sure Philly will make them an offer.
