TwitchTVJohn$100 for potentially 70,000 ad impressions. That's uhhh.. < $2 eCPM.

Still a better CPM than adsense. Enigma, this is your calling.

Even better when you think about how this is directly appearing to the entire, exact target demographic.

ETF2L Highlander Season 4
March 1, 2013 - TF2 Team

More Highlander, more fun! ETF2L's Highlander Season 4 has opened signups for their tournament and will remain open until March 8. All participating teams that finish their season will receive some in game items as prizes in addition to the €1,000 up for grabs between the top three teams. Have at it!
UGC Season Updates
January 7, 2013 - TF2 Team

United Gaming Clans have their Highlander and 6v6 leagues starting up for the spring season openers which start January 21 and January 23 respectively. In addition to the new seasons the UGC has also recently expanded to the Australian region in addition to their Asian, South American, and European regions. Players from any of these regions are encouraged to participate and join the fun! More details can be found on the UGC site.

Looks like a majority of the recent posts on teamfortress.com are about competitive stuff actually. Nothing about ESEA though.

This has been asked and answered hundreds of times.
Valve made TF2 as a public-servers join and go type of game. When it comes to TF2, they do not support competitive play period

The UGC medals prove you otherwise.

I agree that we should get STAR on this. He seems like a good guy, semi-invested in the comp scene.

It's a nod, for sure, but when you get down to it, those medals were made by the community, and were pushed to Valve by the community. Hopefully we get something more overt in the future.

With all due respect to UGC medals (I only played in the last highlander season so I could get one!), supporting competitive TF2 =/ Medals.

I mean sure it is something, but when talking about real endorsement/support, I'm sure you will agree Medals are not it.

Wouldn't it be much easier if all of us added teamfortress.tv to our steam names? At least while we are pubbing, Costs nothing and people will pay a bit more attantion to it.

0.1% attention rate with 70k viewers (ring) is more people than several times 90% attention rate with 20 viewers (pubbing with tf/tv in name)

better than just sitting here talking about it. Theres a couple thousand users registered on TF.TV. Say 1000 play pubs at least once a week. 20,000 different eyes seeing Teamfortress.TV is pretty good and thats discounting if they go on multiple servers.

Better than nothing and it has little costs

is a gremlin in possession of the shorter tf.tv domain? That would be nice to get to forward to this site.

PheeshI'm really surprised noone has used this for advertising, actually.

Putting myself in a new players shoes though, if I came to this site I'm not sure what would draw me in to it. The front page is basically a news feed for what's happening in the competitive leagues. All of the articles are about predictions for those leagues. Good for competitive players, but not so good for players outside of the competitive scene even if they have some interest in learning.

From my own personal experience in other game communities what drew me into particular sites was really their guides, walkthroughs and 'expert' tips. There's a wealth of knowledge from the players on this site but from a visit to the front page you really wouldn't be aware of where to get it. There's a guide section but that is not currently active.

I think if the goal is to drive new players into comp there could be a lot more emphasis on the front page of this site to guiding them in. Like a standing "intro to competitive tf2" feature or whatnot.

enigma is trying to figure out the best way to fix this problem; I'm also trying to work on a guide for new players.

Pheeshis a gremlin in possession of the shorter tf.tv domain? That would be nice to get to forward to this site.

Anyone able to look into the tf.tv domain? I've tried, but I'm not an internet expert so I actually couldn't see who owned it using normal WHOIS methods. It'd be a FANTASTIC short name to have but it will probably be incredibly expensive (I tried to get a two letter domain name and it was about to cost me 2k/year). But I never managed to get a number, so.

I have no idea if enigma wants to do rings (honestly, he's getting pretty busy at the moment, what with priorities on improving the site versus advertising and LAN coming up); but I believe the cost is too much for right now; it'll definitely result in growth, but it won't result in $100. The best thing to do is name changes on yourself (mocha and I style our names as so: "mana | teamfortress.tv", as does lamefx occasionally), or weapon name/description changes.

I think tf.tv isn't an option for some reason, iirc.

tf2.tv would be the next best, but that already goes to Arx and Beta's youtube page.

enigma just told me that two letter domains are reserved. :( Any other ideas for short domain names? Three or more, unfortunately, is what we're going to have to go with.

If valve doesn't make an announcement, perhaps they could give us a discount?
considering the money they'd make from the mass sales of rings
