tf2 is in a rough spot currently.

tf2 needs players who love the game and a lot of the players who do deeply love the game feel betrayed by Valve and have determined that there isn't much of a future left in the game so they're moved on. Tf2 as it currently is can only exist as a passion project and the people with the passion have moved on to greener pastures where they can get paid and rewarded.

Many of the people who are left aren't the nicest players or the most friendly players, who push toxic attitudes on new players which just ends up pushing them away or making them into unhealthy players. There are definitely kind players left and some great players in the community who have good attitudes but it certainly appears like that's on the decline and the toxicity of the scene is becoming more and more visible with very little being done/that can be done to prevent it. With the exception of course of people trying being nicer to each other in this increasingly shrinking community and the community playing tournaments and matches for fun and self improvement, not just playing things where they know they can win/actually have a chance of winning the bracket.

note: I am tf2 plebian these are just observations
