Yeah the XL2411T is like 60 euros cheaper than the asus one for me, so I'll probably go for that assuming there aren't any flaws with it. Does anyone have any first hand experiences with it? Preferably someone who can compare the two.

Didn't someone figure out a way to overclock the catleap 1440p monitors to 120hz? Killer input lag though, I think.

Hmmm. A new monitor has been on my wishlist for a while. I'm still on 60Hz 1680x1050 at the moment. 2560x1440 would give me 50% more resoultion to record TF2, would increase video quality so much..... But I've sorta also been wanting to play games on 120Hz for a while. Choises..

Asus PB278Q seems good and not too expensive. But on the other hand with that resolution I might have to pick up a new graphics card as well. :/

Yes...however, there are some catches.

I have this monitor, it's fine. Input lag isn't so bad that it's unplayable. The only thing that bugs me is that no one has an exact number for the input lag, so, frankly, any mention of input lag is going to be more opinion/speculation. I personally want to know how much input lag there is, but no one seems to have a number.

Good news for lightboost enthusiasts, there is now a custom utility for enabling and toggling lightboost strobing on compatible monitors, even on AMD cards!

Holy shit, this is good.

However, when I activate lightboost, my colors get all changed up.
I never understood why some people had color problems with the Asus. Some people reportet a purple-ish hue. I always had pretty perfect colors and completely neutral greys.
But when I turn on lightboost it actually becomes kind of purple. It actually looks extremely CRT now (minus the radiation).
It's weird but I'm okay with it because I can turn it off and have the colors be neutral again when I'm done tf2ing.

On a sidenote: I wonder if having lightboost on actually causes more eye strain (like CRTs do) because it is now constantly "flickering" on and off. Anyone know about that?

All led backlit monitors strobe the backlight to achieve brightness settings <100%, albeit usually at much higher rates than 120hz. Some people will be more sensitive to it than others.

I got a 30" widescreen CRT but it only takes YPbPr instead of VGA cables. Would I still be able to use it as a 120hz monitor?

I have the asusvg248qe (owner for ~3 months). I find it difficult to believe that someone without a 120hz could compete.

I'm very happy with the purchase. I would also say it's easily justifiable if you use the computer a lot, because it's quite easy on the eyes in day-to-day use.

I have no problems with the colors. I think they may be calibrating them differently now.

So I'm trying to get 120hz on my CRT in full screen. However, when I put in the console -freq 120 or -refresh 120, I get no picture on my screen.

I've been thinking about investing in a 120hz monitor but I don't want to get f'ed out of my money for a monitor that doesn't go with my computer. So can someone please help and tell me if its worth it for me.

My fps stays somewhere around 100-120- (capped to 120) dropping to 70-90 when there's a whole lot of action going on, like middle fights for example. (with high frames + all the fps booster stuff)

what's your cpu? gfx card doesn't matter as much for tf2. what was your previous resolution? you might want to upgrade to a better card anyway for 1080p. try a 7850 or 7770

I have a i3 quad core. I have no idea what you mean by "previous resolution" but Im playing the game with my native 1920x1080 resolution. Im hesitant to buy a new card since I have newer built a computer nor upgraded one.

I believe it has matte panel, but it does have a glossy bezel....disgusting.

There are no i3 quad cores. It's a dualcore with hyperthreading (2 logical cores per physical core->better multithread scheduling than windows).

If you don't get >120 fps (preferably about 240) ALL THE TIME a 120Hz monitor won't help you. With 90 fps instead of 120 it would show one frame twice, the next only on time and the frame after that twice, then once and so on. Yes, that looks as awful as it sounds.

tl;dr
Don't get a 120Hz monitor if you can't get >120 fps all the time.
