LuckyLukeBioLuckyLukeIs the ASUS VG248QE Matte or Glossy? A.k.a. can you use it as a mirror?
I don't want this: http://static.hometheaterforum.com/imgrepo/4/49/htf_imgcache_36766.jpeg

I believe it has matte panel, but it does have a glossy bezel....disgusting.
Yes but the screen itself is matte right? Like ... the video area.

...Yes, thats the panel. Panel = Screen.

Ok. I've read the whole thread and I am a bit confused... I've been looking for a good monitor and I came up with BenQ XL2420T (120hz monitor) and ASUS VG248QE (144hz monitor) My question is does Asus ASUS VG248QE have " Black eQualizer "? or maybe something similar as Black Equalizer? BenQ uses Display Mode function and Asus uses SPLENDID Video Preset Modes is that the same thing? People say that input lag and the colors are really bad on Asus is that true? On other forums people say that you can't have 144hz monitor using HDMI only using Dual-link DVI Cable. Can someone confirm that? Also, I found this video clip the guy talks about BenQ 2411T (120/144hz monitor) I was trying to find some information about that monitor but I couldn't find any. I am not sure if BenQ 2411T even a real monitor. Maybe this monitor is not on a sale yet. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FOmyhgKgKpQ ( 3:10 ) He compares the BenQ models and he talks about BenQ 2411T that you need " Special drivers that will allow you to get that 144hz monitor" Correct me if I am wrong. B/c it's not even on the official website... If someone does have the link for the US seller can you please post it in this thread. Thanks.

144hz works on the xl2411t oob, but I believe it isn't for sale in the US. The black equalizer isn't really good or useful imo.

120 hz only works with Dual-link DVI cable indeed.

Has anyone here previously owned an IPS monitor before changing to 120Hz?

Curious to know if people think the viewing angle / colour quality tradeoff is worth it for the higher refresh rate. Even if I portrait my IPS, I simply don't have the desk space for two 24" monitors.

I have both the Asus VG236H and the BenQ XL2420T available for me, the asus one being $67,83 more expensive, which one do you guys recommend?

From what I've seen the Asus has better colors, but I couldn't find objective comparisons in terms of ghosting and input lag.

They are the same panel. Get the cheaper one. Colors can be calibrated, it's just a different stock calibration.

frknDeadboltWhalewhat kind of fps do you need to make a 120 hz monitor worth it?
120+

if your fps is lower than your refresh rate then it won't really make the game much smoother
This isn't necessarily true, a lot of people say they can notice 60Hz->75Hz, in which case you would only need 75 fps to take advantage of it. I would say you'd probably want 90+ to bother and ideally 120+ to get your money's worth
SetsulIf you don't get >120 fps (preferably about 240) ALL THE TIME a 120Hz monitor won't help you. With 90 fps instead of 120 it would show one frame twice, the next only on time and the frame after that twice, then once and so on. Yes, that looks as awful as it sounds.

tl;dr
Don't get a 120Hz monitor if you can't get >120 fps all the time.

One of these statements is true and one is false. Does anyone with experience know which, please?

the first is correct, i often dont get >120fps and still notice the higher refresh rate from my 60hz

Thanks for the input, but I'd like more people to comment on this. I've found pretty comprehensive (well, at least for me :p) reviews by this NCX guy:

www.youtube.com/watch?v=NcIZ6MX3Org - VG236H

www.youtube.com/watch?v=V1p-4rPLv84 - XL2420T

He ranks the Asus above the BenQ in terms of both colors and responsiveness, and also mentions some overdrive overshoot problems that are more apparent on the BenQ. Aren't the Asus advantages worth the extra price?

nerkulOne of these statements is true and one is false. Does anyone with experience know which, please?

I don't really know about this, but if I recall correctly Clockwork says playing on a 120Hz helps him a lot even though his not able to maintain constant 120 fps.

Every frame over 60FPS is a benefit but something like 20-30 more frames isn't really worth $300.

I'm considering getting a BenQ XL2411T, I'm wondering, does it matter that I have an AMD card (hd 6850) rather than an nvidia card? I'm assuming 3D won't work, anything else? (also does the 144 hz matter much?)

It's reconditioned by benq, so it's fine. Woot is great. Probably my favorite shopping site on the web. Daily deals on random different shit.

I got 2 of my 3 2420Ts from woot, and they are completely fine.

I ordered my benq xl2411t and have some questions:
- I will keep my current monitor as a secondary monitor
1. Will I be able to have the monitors run at separate refresh rates and separate colour settings?
2. Am I able to calibrate colours when using lightboost?
3. What settings do I need to change for my games to run at 120hz? Only -freq 120 ?
4. What is the AMA stuff of the benq?
5. Does black equaliser work with lightboost?
Thanks in advance.

1. Yes
2. Yes, but not via the monitor, only via OS/drivers.
3. Nothing. You need to change/remove the fps caps in some games though (e.g. Unreal Engine caps to 62)
4. ?
5. No, I wouldn't recommend using it anyway.

You 100% do not need to add any custom settings, 144Hz works at all resolutions (at least the common ones) below and at 1920x1080 with a dual link dvi cable.

crossfiredo 120 hz monitor put more work on ur processor/computer? will i get less fps in tf2 when using a 120 compared to a 60?

No.

Just be aware that if you current monitor isn't already 1920x1080 you might experience worse performance.

KhakiAre there any substantial differences(besides res/screen size) between these two ASUS 144hz monitors?

Not really.

Only thing I can think of is related to the screen size 1920x1080 on a 27inch monitor means you're going to see individual pixels alot easier which isn't great for picture quality.
Quik question. I have benq xl2411t 144hz monitor and I play tf2 at 1024x768 and quake at 800x600 resolution. Do I need to make custom resolution things in order to get 144hz because I dont play at native res.
I don't think so
You 100% do not need to add any custom settings, 144Hz works at all resolutions (at least the common ones) below and at 1920x1080 with a dual link dvi cable.
