I think I figured it out. Your hours reset when you reset your stats.

If that was the case, wouldn't the hours be switched for me?

the hours that show up in your library / on your main profile page are the time you've had team fortress 2 open. the hours that show up when you go into your stats is the sum of the hours of playtime you have on each class. so when you reset that playtime count, your total stats hours gets reset as well

also, the playtime on each class can be inaccurate, because when i was at 499 hours for soldier, i went to pub to get 500 and ended up pubbing for 3 hours before it hit 500 on the stats screen (i.e. went up less than 30 minutes on maps with 30 minute time limits)

Time spent in spectator does not add to time spent playing a class.

I believe the stats page is your time alive as each class (meaning time spent in respawn, spectator, not connected to server, etc. won't count), and the hours on your profile is how long you've had tf2 open. Both can be relatively inaccurate sometimes though.

The hours shown on my full statistics page is right, given the playtime for all classes adds up to 740 - as opposed to the 1900 listed on my Steam profile.

I have no idea how the hell I've had TF2 open for the extra 1200 hours though.

I do the same thing in csgo. I wake up, open the game, and keep the window open for the entire day. I realized this when my mm match count was similar to my friends but the amount of hours was way higher.
