I'm going to install it on my non work PC in a bit, but for those that already installed the release build, what are your initial thoughts?

Also PSA: Windows 10 enables mouse accel again in the control panel. This doesn't matter if you're using raw input of course.

Still haven't received the update on any of my devices. Apperently some people are being left in the dark for a while due to Microsoft shipping the OS in waves. Just gotta wait I guess :(

Yeah I don't get this lol, both my game PC and work laptop have copies of windows 10 reserved, and this morning the former got the option to download and install, laptop did not.

Well I'm going to press upgrade now, hopefully not rip PC

I was thinking about upgrading but not if they're forcing updates on us with no way to turn them off, fuck that.

messiahim going to install this after my match today, because im worried something will be lost, like having to install tf2 again with absolute shitty internet

Well the windows 10 system tray icon checks which programms are incompatible. No issue with anything, including steam and tf. Only issue was VMWare Workstation and WMWare player - virtual machines, which seems to be the most logical problem if there is going to be any

Someone should benchmark fps for Tf2 between Windows 7 and 10, for comparison.

Another PSA that makes switching less scary: You can switch back to Windows 8.1 (don't know about 7, but probably as well) from Windows 10 via the control panel, as long as you do this within 1 month of upgrading. After that first month, the old OS files are deleted.

Just a warning, i used W10 insider version and i was constantly running into issues with it forcing vsync on in multiple ways and forcing vsync off from ingame settings and gpu drivers drivers did nothing. Also there's no way to disable desktop composition so if you plan to using W10 for gaming pc be prepared for buttload of input lag.

It's possible that final version doesn't have these problems but they effectively scared me off of W10.

Edit: and the W10 forced "vsync" didn't sync to monitor refresh rate but 60fps.

I upgraded and so far I've enjoyed it;
The little touches to the design is nice looking and obviously we get the classic start menu back. There is more and I'm not sure if performance has really been boosted or drained but so far I'm pleased with it and Microsoft is heading in the right direction. (sept' for Cortana there is no point in...)

Tried that, it worked for a while, but then after some windows update it didn't help anymore.

Fullscreen mode should allow the game to have control over the refresh rate.

I think (major think, don't know for sure) you can run it in compatibility mode. Don't take my word for it

Anyone who upgraded through the windows 8 popup, does it work like a simple upgrade (as in you get to keep all your files, software, drivers, settings, etc? or is it like a fresh install?

DanceNumberFullscreen mode should allow the game to have control over the refresh rate.

So is borderless windowed fucked?

The problem with that is just that fullscreen mode kinda sucks.

it keeps all your files, if you want a fresh install you can use this: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-10/media-creation-tool-install?ocid=ms_wol_win10

you can also use this to upgrade if your update doesn't work through the gwx program.

miloesea client works

thanks milo.

Also, has anyone installed this who has been running a pirated copy of windows. (i bought 32bit by accident and wanted 64bit win 7 so i pirated it lol). Does it lock you out in anyway or does it just give you the usual 'you may be a victim of software counterfeiting' and then not deliver updates.

you didn't hear this from me, but the standard windows 10 upgrade program did not work, however the one I linked above did.

Just upgraded, looks sick. Didn't loose files or programms etc.

I don't know if this is true or not but I did it anyway: Make sure your copy of Windows is English and not in your native language for my fellow europeans. There's a higher chance of shit going wrong if the system language isn't english during the upgrade. Just download a language pack from the control panel.

Also cortana keeps telling me something is wrong when I give her specific commands. I can open Chrome and steam without my hands now though. What a time to be alive.

"Hey cortana, open Netbeans"
"opening lesbians"
yeah that works too

Upgrading doesn't work if its pirated. Literally one of the only requirements is having a legit copy of win7/8.1
