DeutschLAN drops TF2Center sponsorship

From http://etf2l.org/forum/lan/topic-30935/page-26/#post-539307

It is my pleasure to announce that DeutschLAN is dropping tf2center.com from sponsorship of the lan. We came to this conclusion because of three main reasons:

1. A prizepool of 2000€ was promised which was suddendly dropped to 500€

2. Masternoob made the condition that we ban former tf2center admin RTC from the Lan

3. Bad business ethics/attitude from tf2center

Also I can proudly announce that from now on forward tf2pickup.net will be sponsoring the lan. A big thank you goes to them for supporting this community event. They have proven in previous season to be great and serious sponsors.

Cheers

You know I wish I could say I was surprised. Really glad I got out of this project when I did.

"I don’t know you and I don’t even play TF2 competitively, but just by reading the forums you seem like a fucking cunt, staying behind his computer and insulting other people he does not know. I just wanted to tell you that you look stupid doing this. And what is you problem with coast to coast, they are just a new forming team trying to get into prem." – Masternoob

You don't actually have the infrastructure to deal with half of their playerbase, and all your existing playerbase would instantly leave if it became frequently used by the same skill tier as tf2center. Not a wise publicity stunt tbh Raptor :D

TF2Pickup is an excellent pickup site but please don't go there to learn how to play TF2 :(

Hi, I've been working at TF2Center since last year march. I joined the team to help the growth of competitive TF2. And I would like to shine some light on the entire issue.

Sadly, as you can see with prior and recent issues, TF2Center has had a huge problem with moderation and public opinion.
It started since launch, when players expressed a fair bit of criticism against the two developers (who are the project leaders of the site). This set course for the whole ordeal we see center in right now.

instead of listening to the community, it became a game of trying to fish out the legit looking criticism and the easy-to-fix solutions. The effort spent on the site diminished, but flared up if there was a good idea that was low level to implement.

In December 2014 a few players from the EU HL community banded together to see if we could organise a LAN. That team is Foungi, Stinson, Schalla, Hartz and me. We looked around for sponsors and because I have a connection with center, and Masternoob was convinced that LAN was a good idea (after visiting i52), a plan was set up to sponsor the LAN prize pool for 2000 euros.

I mean, how unclear can it be? the exact words he posted himself on the staff forum were:

http://i.imgur.com/kEaTJW2.png

(this is the end part of his own post).

Cut to a few weeks ago. I have been invited to Masternoobs house, and it was great! He and his wife showed a lot of hospitality and I had a wonderful time discussing several things. One of the things I've shown was how we set up a fund raiser to cut the costs for the players and staff (hosting and attending LAN can be pretty expensive). He then said he'd look into funding a part of the fundraiser. At no point I had any idea he'd draw back from the original prize pool funding.

Last TF2Center staff meeting we'd discuss a few things, and I got a PM from foungi (deutschLAN host), and asked me to relay details about RTC's removal from Center. Masternoob told Foungi that he didn't want RTC to attend the LAN.
So I confronted him and he said he was in the position to demand that since he's the title sponsor, if we wanted the 500 euros we (LAN organisation) better do that.

After asking him if he misspoke about 500 euros, since 2000 was agreed, he said he had changed it with foungi and it was a problem with internal communication.

So I'd ask foungi:

foungi #DeutschLan: he never said "i'm not going to pay 2000"

Spoke to the other members of LAN staff, nobody has ever heard of anything less than 2k.

I've watched this problem for a week in the hope TF2center can resolve it, but we got into contact with TF2Pickup and we'd rather cut ties with Center, and go into partnership with a site that actually cares for it's community. At this point it's not about the money anymore, it's about the principle.

One part of me is happy that today I'm leaving behind a site with the head of it banning players for no reason at all, harassing staff and former staff members and hurting the competitive community.
I'll be sending my resignation on the TF2C staff forums in a bit.

Sorry for not being able to steer the site in the right direction, I tried but obviously have failed.

Really surprised I've never made a post here. Let's rectify that.

I actually can't get over how Masternoob felt that barring me from attending Deutschlan (an event hosted by ETF2L, not by TF2C by the way) would be a necessity in order for the event to warrant TF2C's sponsorship. Does he think I'm going to attack him at LAN or try to sabotage the event just because I'm disenchanted with the leadership of his website? I have much better things to do at the event, like meet new people, explore a country I've never been to before and play some video games, and even if I didn't, I'm not nearly stupid enough to do things like that.

I'm just glad some good has come out of this, and the sponsorship is now in more capable hands. As an admin on TF2Pickup now, I'll do my best to contribute to the event, and I still plan on attending to play with my team.

As much as I've tried to defend TF2C in the past, and this point I honestly don't think I'm capable of defending this. What MN did is inexcusable and are making me contemplate why I'm still representing them.

Edit: I have also decided to resign from TF2C.

Kkaltuu don't even bother posting an internal discussion. They deleted my post when I quit, and they've been deleting tonberrys few recent posts trying to call them out as well.

The bullying does not only extend to the larger tf2 community, it's internal as well.

I used to work at TF2C as a mod and was also put in charge of the feedback section of the forums. I cannot stress enough how much I disagree with Masternoob on this. I'm now boycotting the site.

The point of sponsoring an event like this is to support the community not to exert your influence over people/organisations. I cannot imagine any scenario where RTC's attendance would've been negative for the LAN. This is purely Masternoob acting on a personal vendetta and it wouldn't be the first time.

Now they've lost yet another member of staff who has done a fantastic job on the site as far as I can tell. It makes me sad to see a site with such great potential be slowly destroyed by certain individual's actions after so many people put so much work into it.

Good luck and kudos to the people behind DeutschLan and TF2Pickup. Unfortunately I cannot afford to go but if you guys need any help with the running/organisation I’ll be glad to help out.

Shame on the admins of TF2Center who are responsible for this decision.

Cut off replies part cause I don't want to post my conversations with someone else on forums.

On 29th June after sponsoring TF.TV I wrote MN this:

21:46 - CHERRY * Saloon.tf: #MNTheSnake
21:46 - CHERRY * Saloon.tf: getting in everywhere
..
21:47 - CHERRY * Saloon.tf: well making more and more of tf2 dependent

Today I wrote

sobota, 4 lipca 2015
17:11 - CHERRY * Saloon.tf: Seems like MNTheSnake part was actually not a joke
17:12 - CHERRY * Saloon.tf: I said it jokingly, but I saw TF2Cs influence spreading just like Scrap.tfs and I was worried about you demanding something from TF.TV in the future
17:12 - CHERRY * Saloon.tf: turns out it was not TF.TV

I feel like a prophet. As Polish saying goes: if you know how to count, count on yourself.
Too bad, just as kKaultUu said he was a nice dude, just slightly too focused on his project.

EDIT: About Scrap.tf I only meant influence, it's hard for me to imagine geel demanding something like that.

I actually quit over the most disgusting "call out" I've seen in my life. It was one of the devs straight up accusing kkaltuu of having a bias and unbanning his friends. The way he was treated was some of the worst treatment to someone who poured his heart and soul into their product.

It's not surprising that when the rubber hits the road you see your mods falling off like this if that is how you treat them. I was gone a week ago, now there's three more today.

Oh and the situation was resolved cause another admin unbanned the dude.

The people running it are viruses to the community and we don't want that infecting good community events.
