milotf2 will never be an esport, wake up from this dream you guys have. valve will never put money into competitions for their games instead they put it into the community and for the casual gamers

with that attitude it won't.

good effort extine IMO.

I think you had the right idea, I think esea supports tf2 a lot less than extv does, since it's only about profit. So it would be better to grow extv who actually cares about the community and stuff, and i guess you had the leverage to do so but it didn't work out. SO sry.

Yeah and it sucks when you are like left out of the loop and ppl do shit liek that. But sometimes it just pans out that way and hopefully they didn't do it on purpose.

:)

My 2 cents.

I think the best thing for tf2 right now is to support a single stream and to get as many viewers and as much exposure as possible. I understand that eXtine was a victim of terrible a miscommunication and has every right to be angry, but I can't see how running an official extv stream against the esea orange stream would be doing anything helpful for tf2.

People need to be open about their communications and opinions about things like this to make sure something like this doesn't happen again.

>I can't see how running an official extv stream against the esea orange stream would be doing anything helpful for tf2.
It's because of the love/hate relationship the tf2 community has with ESEA. You need a little passive aggressive behavior to get anything new out of something that's content with exactly where it's at.

Well like at i46, there was the VanillaTV stream, and Seanbud's stream. He continuously plugged them and asked every one watching his stream to at least have the Vtv stream open and muted. If eXtv streams as well, I don't see why everybody shouldn't have both streams open, and just mute one of them. I think it's all about the view count, and that would help things.

Not singling you out but the idea that ESEA does less for TF2 than eXtv is what gets us in the wrong mindset. I don't doubt that eXtv puts more passion and effort into their work, but they certainly do not support TF2 as much as ESEA for the simple fact that ESEA is the impetus for a lot of people to play TF2. A LAN and prize money every season, even for the lower divisions. This support might be less personal, but no matter how "given" their support feels (what with them having the money to support TF2), not giving them the respect they deserve for sticking with our game will not help it grow. I'm all for eXtv helping TF2 behind the scenes, but fighting for viewership over an ESEA Orange stream can't do any good for TF2, unless eXtv has a TF2 league/LAN in the works. Don't bite the hand that feeds you; ESEA is there for us and we should be there for ESEA.

Arx US casts are watchable at reasonable hours by spectators from US,

~10-11PM is definitely not reasonable. Prime-time starts at 7PM, when the average American is at home from work. This means typical matches only happen at optimal viewing times for the west coast, only a margin of the NA population. If you look at SC2 there's tournament casting at all hours of the day, but that's mostly because they have matches happening at different times all around the world.

I understand there's definitely a lot of disparity between when players are available to play and that pretty much anyone will be free @ 10pm or later on a weekday, but most of our target audience (people not strongly aware of TF2) isn't planning on staying up late and stumbling upon a TF2 stream.

8AM classes=self enforced bedtime. Albeit I usually go to bed at 12 or 1 anyways, but still

they always put a main page stream of the other tournaments, even if they don't fly you our there they should main page the extv stream, or even just let you stream it from the esea orange name..if you cared about the community it wouldn't be work or about money so pretty much fuck off, these invite players put out of pocket money into flying out to play and they barely make back the plane tickets probably, especially for people like b4nny flying out from fucking washington.

This is disappointing. I'm pretty sure we're all here for the love of the game. I just worked an entire season of ESEA just to pay for my flight to LAN to work more for ESEA. I'm not sure when any of this became about the money.

Not touching this thread any more. (broken that promise before...)

Apologies for the video. Obviously a bunch of mis-communications all around. Some raw feelings that I had to get out. I feel better now.

eXtv won't be casting this LAN, but are still eXcited for it. I'll maybe put together hype vid tomorrow or friday night, talk about the matchups, and direct traffic.

Good luck to Lange for everything to go smoothly. Have a good cast cbear, djc, and co.

GL HF guys.

The goal of esports is to make it mainstream.. to generate a consistent revenue stream.

When people decided to put money into esports.. that's the day it became "about the money"

Cbear made the point in his stream that eXtine and I make money from the YouTube VODs. I think he overestimated what eXtine makes - I make like $100-150 a month, which is respectable, but won't pay any kind of rent in any state.

And would I like it to pay rent? Of course! If I could make enough money from casting TF2 to pay for my day-to-day shit, I'd drop my accounting career in a heartbeat and cast TF2 all day. In that sense, it IS about the money - if I don't make enough from it for it to be a viable career, then it will always be a hobby, subject to increasing time pressure from other shit I've got going on. Shit like work, school, and building a social life.

Coming at it from a slightly different angle, as an economist, I like to see situations where financial incentives align nicely with the desired outcomes. We want to see TF2 as an esport alongside Starcraft and LOL? Then the financial incentives need to be there to support it.

A disappointing issue that I think, more than anything, stems from a bunch of miscommunication and one helluva lot of passion to do the community right but in somewhat different directions.

The fact that his video sparked so much debate - and, let's point out, pretty healthy and honest debate you wouldn't see in ANY OTHER ONLINE COMMUNITY (could you imagine this debate on a CS forum? *shudder*) - can't inherently be a bad thing.
