popcorpQuertand the result?
You cant benchmark it, it's something you have to do by yourself, see if game runs faster or not, but by logic, freeing up memory 24/7 while moving, shouldn't cause any harm

Hmmm.

Can't you record a demo with said mem_compact running all the time, Then benchmark by running the demo (since demos record all actions and scripts provided they are aliased properly). After that run the command:

alias mem_compact ""

Then rerun said demo?

By the way I test these commands all mem_compact would do is keep you at your initial benchmark FPS. It wouldn't actually increase performance in the 1st timedemo, and if you were to constantly run the command it would likely use up some cpu power. So making a bind for it and hitting it every round or Half would provide optimal performance.

I have an issue with it, if someone could help me that would be nice. My frames really improved, but weirdly when I minimize the game and then come back to it, it goes to black and eventually , it crashes. Does anybody know why this happens and how could I fix it ?

my god I love you, this saved my tf2 life. I've been having serious FPS dips since a few weeks back and this solved most of it.

It just takes a long time before I can play after alt tabbing indeed. But that doesn't bother me too much.

Take dxlevel and your resolution out of your launch options.

So I've been crashing about once a day since I switched back to this cfg. I was using Rhapsody's for a few months but switched back a few days ago. I've been crashing daily since.

I'll be in the middle of a match and my tf2 will just close without warning. hl2.exe doesn't stop responding, it just closes.

Also, I've been getting a weird particle glitch where it frequently shows players as overhealed even though they have low health.

Sorry guys didn't read the last 3 pages because it's a crap ton of information :c Could you possibly make a pastebin or update the first post to contain links to all the benchmarks and later maybe make a one huge benchmark comparing everything. RAM, Cpu (Dual? vs. Quad?), GPU, Configs, HUDS etc. Also I have a question... Could I get TF2 to run stock (possibly some trade or vsh) with 100 fps ? I reinstalled my computer from Linux Ubuntu 14.04 to Windows 7. On Ubuntu I was getting around 60fps with chris maxframes and a custom hud (bast I think but I'm not sure) This new config is a GREAT idea since chris' is extremely outdated... Thanks a lot for this guys :) Really glad someone took the first step for doing this :)
My computer:
CPU: Intel Celeron CPU 1017U @ 1.6 GHz
GPU: Intel HD Graphics (dxdiag doesn't specify for some reason) 775mb
RAM: 2048MB
Also an interesting thing I found once on a random jump server where I was talking to some people about TF2's performance and how my Steam overlay is crashing all the time and one guy said that the crashing was caused by directx 8 and I think he was actually correct because the crashing stopped.... Might be worth adding that in the original post :)

Voldymortis there anything i could play around with to make using this fps config stable for my dual core cpu? i really would like to use a more updated fps config than chris' for that maximum fps

open the cfg

ctrl + f

"cl_threaded_bone_setup"

change the 1 to 0

and just above that

"mat_queue_mode 2"

change the 2 to "-1"

Yes, disable that command too.

all of a sudden i began experiencing terrible input lag with your config while trying to aim and move even though im using fps_max 0. any idea on why? :/

I did what voldymort did and also got quite a bit of input lag. I think that if you have a dual-core cpu stick with chris' until an updated dual-core cpu config comes out.

I've been running this config on a dual-core cpu for the last two months without any problems, with r_queued_decals and cl_threaded_bone_setup to 0, however I was running on mat_queue_mode 2. I've changed this to -1 now as you recommended but wanted to ask whether it is absolutely necessary to do so as I feel like I got better performance with it set to 2. Thanks!

it might not be, technically -1 should still use multithreading if your cpu can handle it. Use 2 if it works perfectly fine for you.

cinderMy game crashes with the quad-core commands on even though I have four cores. Does that happen to anybody else?

Does the CPU have four physical cores or are two of them hyperthreaded? Also make sure cl_threaded_client_leaf_system is set to 0.

If you continue to crash, I recommend giving this config a try and going through the in-game setup and enabling the experimental settings (or AMD-compatible settings if you have an AMD CPU). Do you still end up crashing?

My 1st guess is you're using a AMD cpu. and likely have r_queue_decals on and possibly colorcorrection threading as well

I don't experience the crashes when I turn the commands off. It doesn't really bother me that much, it's just those 20-30 fps I'm missing out. I'll check both of your suggestions later today or, most likely, tommorow. Thanks for the help so far! As for the CPU, I'm pretty sure I have Intel, will give you more info after I check.

I've been experiencing what I think are microstutters, where the game freezes for a split second, and I'm not quite sure what's causing it.

mat_queue_mode -1
cl_threaded_bone_setup 0
fps_max 121

I have a dual core, 4 thread cpu (intel i5 3210m) and intel hd graphics 4000, and can keep 121 pretty steadily, but I just get the occasional hang.

Is it a result of the config or could something else be at fault?

For now, I'm going to try turning cl_ejectbrass back on and see how things go.

Edit: Seems to be more stable, I'll keep playing and see if it's true over the next few days.
