this is seriously a really great update. it's a shame the dota community went to pathetic lengths (like negatively reviewing the game on metacritic) to get diretide (which i would have been fine with valve skipping in order to develop this update).

either way, the new heroes look fantastic and I can't wait to play it (hopefully) tonight.

But turns out you actually need to do that to get even response from valve. I don't believe they would've made that steam post if it weren't for complete meltdown of playerbase. To clear my position here - what we saw from part of dota community was absolutely stupid. But this was one of the really few times when valve teams actually reached to community to explain their position and intentions (excluding csgo team maybe, because I actually saw them in r/globaloffensive). Fact that it took, well that is really bad.

i can definitely agree with you that valve's communication with the community is awful (where's that lobby system valve huh???). sure, the employees are on the subreddits for valve games all the time (which can definitely be proved by several things in this update) but the company itself needs to improve its communication with the people who play its games. the old "ignore it and it will go away eventually" can no longer really work now that dota 2 is such a large game.

User Interface

Lanepicker added to hero selection screen
You can now invite to trade from within Dota 2, including people you aren't friends with (privacy settings available)
Games that are part of a best-of series are now grouped and spoiler-protected in the recent games panel
Added set browser to Hero Picker
Broadcasters can now specify a country and description per channel when setting up a lobby for specators
Showcase View can be activated using the icon on the left side of your hero portrait.
Colorblind option added
Closed-captioning option added
Added a "Pending Invitations" tooltip when in a party that lists outstanding party invitations
Added Acknowledgements tab to the Library
Fixed incorrect turn arrows when spectating Captains Mode drafts
New convar dota_ability_legacy_mode_quick_cast causes all ability casts in Legacy keybinding mode to be Quick Casts
You no longer need to equip pennants to have their view counts updated and count towards teams you watch live

Now if they would add some more colorblind options to TF2, that'd be great.
