Thread about ESEA PUGs on the ESEA Forums

After watching Fully Charged #40 (woo, it's 40 episodes old!) and listening to the PUG talk, I decided to make an ESEA thread regarding their PUGs. It would be appreciated if people could leave their opinions in the thread:

http://play.esea.net/index.php?s=forums&d=topic&id=526671

Thanks. :D

The thing is, IMO, we can talk about the advantages of the ESEA pug system all we want, but it doesn't change the fact that the community has created multiple pug systems on its own, to the point that ESEA would have to make drastic, drastic changes to even have a chance of becoming a minor competitor to them. Sure, IRC is hard at first but once you get walked through it by someone familiar with the IRC pug system it's pretty easy. And if you really don't get IRC at all we're supposed to get TF2center eventually, which will be more straightforward, and hopefully not as scrubby as lobby has become (if it even gets released, that is...).

Just saying, ESEA has a lot of distance to catch up in the pug market.

my main concern with ESEA pugs is that I (believe) would have to pay for ESEA.
I know this isnt a big deal for most people since they are paying anyways to play in the league, but for people like myself who arent on a team but still want to pug it is a factor.

edited for clarity and so it doesnt sound like im yelling

If there's a free pug system why would someone pay for a different pug system that essentially provides the exact same service?

The point of this thread on TFTV was to get people to post on the ESEA forums, not here. Posting here doesn't do anything.

Didn't watch FC but I know that one of the main problems with pugging in ESEA is that you have to play with whatever 12 people are in the server which can result in bad pugs. Sometimes CS players hop in too...

I've never used any of the irc pug systems. If the ESEA pugs were used by the community more, I would play in them.

one of the reasons is because most of the people are already premium because they're on teams

But they can't play with people who don't have premium. More people more pugs

I would love to discuss important topics with ESEA. Oh wait, my IP is banned from the whole website because ESEA was charging me for premium I didn't sign up for.

I think the community needs to be decreasing its reliance on ESEA, not increasing it.

speaking of fully charged, i remember extv doing a weekly news show for tf2 called extravision. that kinda died down after a while. would love to see a condensed quick news show that lets everyone keep up with happenings in tf2.

Aren't there prizes you can get over time for having X amount of karma, with pugs being the easiest way to gain karma? I've been out of the ESEA karma/prize loop for awhile though.

The prizes aren't based off of karma but from the stats that you get (i.e most kills, ubercharges, etc.)

Either way, is that still a thing? Seems like the only reason to bother playing in ESEA pugs.

It still is, but since no one plays the pugs no one claims the prizes

the difference is that its a lot easier to jump straight into a CS pug than it is to jump into a TF2 pug because of how different the public scene in tf2 is from its competitive scene.

not really, you can still join the server and mash your .ready bind and be completely useless

tf2 players for cs will be retarded the same way cs players for tf2 will be retarded

For anyone actually paying attention to this thread, here's the problem. 11 Invite TF2 players sign up to play a PUG. The 12th player could either be another Invite TF2 player, an Open/IM/Main-level TF2 player, or a non-TF2 player. Everyone knows that if the teams aren't even, the PUG won't be as fun or competitive. Simple as that. Nobody wants to play 5v6.

The problem with ESEA is that any retard with $7 USD can hop into a PUG. ESEA won't force that player out of the PUG because he is paying for that service, so nobody PUGs on ESEA. It's easier to do an inhouse or pug.na where you have some control of who gets to play.

The solution to the problem is a lot harder to come to solely because of how different pub TF2 is to competitive TF2. We have all the archaic rules, unlocks, class limits, etc. Which makes it hard to automate a system as ESEA does.

Whats an easier more forgiving bridge from pub to comp? Turn esea pugs into highlander games and see the useskyrocket.

a single good player in cs can carry you and your team, that cant quite happen in tf2. Ive had pugs in cs where my team goes 15-0 then one player on my team leaves and it ends 15-15.
