manaSo, I was checking to sign up (as they just recently opened) and it turns out, I can't even enroll in a course because there's a waitlist on all of the course that qualified for my degree (I need 1 course).

I just got completely screwed out of a degree, probably permanently.

I don't know where you're going, but surely there's an academic adviser or someone you can talk to. I had to switch from CompSci to English because I can afford to finish a BA in English but not a BS in CompSci, and I talked to the English dept.'s academic adviser and she was able to force me into three already filled class. I'd be surprised if someone couldn't force you into a class, unless you're not doing so hot academically in terms of grades/professor relationships.

Edit: Refreshed thread and saw

manaEDIT2: I was just told that I need to go through 3 stages of reviews from higher ups for my application to get CONSIDERED. ggs school I'm never coming back, not for my major.

manaIt's pretty much becoming a money grab nowadays. The professors and instructors are good, but the administration's priorities are totally not in the right areas, and because of that it makes it pretty unforgiving for students.

We got the same things happening here at university of michigan, except we don't even have good instructors :'D

I had been emailing my advisor literally ALL TERM and he never replied to my emails, or even showed up to our meetings for that matter. School's starting in a few weeks and I still don't have my class schedule set because of that guy making excuses and not taking responsibility for his own student. (Yes, I was also enrolled in his class this fall.)

My academic advisor was the first person I talked to, but if I switch, that means I basically have to completely reset my degree (like as if I was a new student, practically). I was thinking about doing this anyways, maybe in a master's.

I mean more along the lines of someone forcing you into at least one of your classes, but I guess it's too far gone for that. GL mana.

My senior year starts September 9th. I got out pretty late too so the summer didn't feel like much. I have to do college stuff for the first few months but the rest of my year is pretty light as far as workload goes.

Do you like teaching? i genuinely don't understand why some people like having to deal with teenagers/childs on a daily basis.
if you like teaching, what do you like about your job?

Mana, you should be able to contact a counselor or something to get you added in. There's always PTE's and stuff to get into a class (I'm in a huge public school too, UCLA) and there are many priority ways to get seniors into classes. I didn't get into 2 classes I needed but emailed some counselors to get into them. If they won't do anything for you then yeah they're fucked up, but I'm pretty sure they're not going to delay a senior like that.

Nope, class doesn't exist over summer.

The problem is I'm not a senior anymore, I'm not even a student, I have to RE-ENROLL as a temporary student if I want to graduate. It's Berkeley, they're pretty unforgiving on letting people fuck up. Which is more or less how my college experience was.

In general, I love teaching. It's all about convincing yourself that you're making a difference, even for just a couple of kids.

There's a lot of stuff I hate about it. The pay, the soul-crushing weight that is standardized testing, rules and regulations regarding when we have to report abuse or neglect, etc. But overall, it's a great experience. I believe that some people are just born to do it.
