the fov disadvantage can be pretty severe when engaging in close-range strafe battles, especially if you're a scout fighting other scouts, or if you're aggressing any player that strafes or clips around you

also, character strafes are going to look much quicker on your screen regardless of distance

YMMV

those ideas are synoymous
since it's preferential, neither is advantageous unless you're accounting for hardware bottlenecking
does your computer struggle with playing tf2? then opt for a lower resolution. if you use gpu scaling, and your monitor can't scale the resolution natively, then you might even want to turn off scaling & play with black bars

its almost always and advantage in CS since you never turn around and players stand still 95% of the time

it makes players move faster tho so its a bad idea in tf2

Pretty sure it's just vertical fov that changes.

16:9 fov_desired 75 and 4:3 fov_desired 90 have approximately the same horizontal fov (16:9 is still slightly larger, 90 effective horizontal fov is actually fov_desired ~73.7 but that's not valid), but vertical fov is still 75 and 90 no matter the resolution you have. So you get the supposed benefit of smaller horizontal fov without sacrificing vertical fov.
