Has any title ever made it as an "eSport" without dev support?
I think we're doing damn well (read as good as we can hope for)

Get multiplay to hire someone with actual taste to handle the main stage. And someone with actual wit to be the announcer. The cameraman waving rubber ducks at people was a huge improvement over multiplay's announcers.

As in one that makes good business sense to work in? No.
LoL, SC2, DOTA, CSGO, NASCAR iRacing, they all have Dev support (in the latter case, support from a big-name sanctioning body helped too).

Definitely, someone also more familiar with the scene. And have multiplay understand we are one of their most sucessful events so they need to pay extra care and attention to it and prevent issues like what happened through the weekend but particularly today, it certainly hurt the potential of event.

thrasherWe should host an international LAN here in NA. Let the euros come here for once.
The reason "we go over there" is because esports are relatively dead in NA compared to europe

TwitchTVJohnwwalrusTwitchTVJohnthe peak concurrent viewership doesn't mean anything. There's tons of other metrics that are for more important. (avg time watched per unique viewer, total unique viewers, etc)
TF2 has grown a lot more than most anyone here realizes.
is there anywhere where we can see these statistics?

Guys, sc2 tournaments get like 10-15k, we got 7k(optimistic rounding up)....ITS HAPPENING
but in reality i think the next big step would be to approach some of the larger video game sponsors and pitch them our game, monster, razer, team liquid, EG, Quantic, these guys are constantly lookign to expand and gain a profit and with the rising interest in tf2 over the past year or so i think it might be time to sit down and have a serious conversation.

kaiserRegi52 to include AsiaFortress, i55 to be AS v AS. If only.
There are some Japanese TF2 players on YouTube and their clips look cool. I'd definitely like to see some AsiaFortress. It's a really long shot though.

Anyone know what was up with the STVs? Why were they not working? Is it just a case of "oops we forgot lol" like ESEA LAN STVs were for forever?

Only flaw I see with your logic is it paid more to win the ESEA LAN than the i-Series TF2 tournament. Now while yes it takes more effort to get into the ESEA LAN it probably breaks even or makes a small profit for a team that wins it, for a NA team trying to go to Europe there's no chance of finishing in the money (Spending six to ten thousand dollars for a LAN that pays $3300 USD to win).
In short, we're making good progress. But we've got a LONG way to go if we want TF2 to compete as a popular eSport.
You've got a good point here. What I would say though is that despite being higher, it's still not paying anyone's bills, and no one's making a salary. Like, ESEA pays a ton more, but it's not a life changing amount of money.
Also, speak to any of the invite guys who've been to i46 and/or i49 and they'll tell you its so much better in every other way.

It's the World Championship. Either you play or you aren't in the game. Community donations should go to prize fund rather than particular teams.

I'd much rather see the world compete for next-to-nothing than virtually no one compete for everything.

hookyAnyone know what was up with the STVs? Why were they not working? Is it just a case of "oops we forgot lol" like ESEA LAN STVs were for forever?
There were internet issues in the event centre for the entire LAN, I guess fixing those were a priority over getting STVs up and running. It wasn't something omitted malevolently, just a lack of time or manpower on Multiplay's part.
