#93 Tip of the Hats 2016 announced in News

I kind of find it not okay that star was streaming at the same time as toth

like I kind of get it, he's a streamer now, but the fact that his fanbase isn't supporting it this year (mostly because they don't know because he didn't tell them) is kind of a big blow

we raised $75k as of the end of today's stream, but that also factors in the roughly ~30k from pre-stream donations, so really only about $45k was brought in during the stream, and I don't know if that trend will continue for days 2 and 3. hopefully it'll pick up because it's the weekend but I really don't know.

In fact the only youtuber to call out ToTH was Dane... Star, Jerma, and Muselk didn't bring any attention to it like they did last year, and it's really hurting. Which is a shame because so much goes into organizing this thing, and this year it's the biggest and most elaborate it's ever been. I really wish they'd give it a shout out so that it can pay off.

edit: this was posted before jerma showed up on cam today

#6 PC shuts off 2 seconds after boot in Hardware

A good rule of thumb is finding anything with SeaSonic as an OEM. While they sell their own parts (which are always good values) sometimes you can find rebrands (like Antec or Corsair) that still use Seasonic internally, for cheaper.

Just go to this website, click the desired brand name at the top, and look at the listed OEM of each PSU model.

There are other good power supply OEMs besides SeaSonic but not all of them are universally good, and Seasonic is prolific enough and generally cheap enough that looking for them is an easy rule of thumb.

@Setsul if you know of any better PSU OEM databases I'd love to know. The Who's Who In Power Supplies articles haven't been updated for years, and while going for old models listed there isn't a big problem, there are plenty of new models with no easy information available, on top of the fact that OEMs sometimes change.

I'm like 90% certain that's the PSU. Always possible it's a capacitor on the mobo or something, but it sounds far more likely that your power supply is overheating or just failing outright.

#17 thin white line across monitor screen in Hardware
DavidTheWinyttriumcould just be burn in. did you leave your monitor on for a long time? if so it should fade if it wasn't too long.
burn in wouldn't happen to just a single row of pixels

while true, a lot of people don't even know what a single row of pixels looks like. without a picture, a "single row of pixels line" could actually be something like this:

http://i46.tinypic.com/2n7kq2u.jpg

this is actually a photo of real burn-in, but because of its thickness most people would actually call it a one pixel line.

and based on his comments (brighter than the color it should be but not solid white, faded over time) it has every sign of burn in.

#2 lag in Hardware

Do you have an Android phone?

You can use an app called Wifi Analyzer that shows every network in the area, what strength each network has, and what bands they're using.

If you have interference then 5GHz WiFi may help, but in actuality 5GHz actually has worse signal strength overall.

#4 GTX 970 $30 Class Action settlement in Hardware
dollarlayerDeerThere's a thread about this already: http://www.teamfortress.tv/35143/free-30-if-you-own-a-gtx-970
I didn't see that, but... It's live now. That previous thread was just speculation. It's a confirmed class action settlement now with a confirmed $30 payout.

The settlement was already confirmed, there just wasn't a way to apply for it yet. Now the site for applications is live.
