you might be laucnhing tf2 in fullscreen mode, which resets screen resolution options. launch in 4:3 at the 4:3 resolution, but add -windowed -h <height> -w <width>, and the black bars should disappear in tf2
worked for me at least, and ive got a shitty onboard intel chip, so if i can do it...

looks like valve made the map, but the dude did the texturing according to the wiki
