#38 Sezco made me decide to post this in TF2 General Discussion
ghettotf2center is already pretty bad though with people who join mumble w/o mics and straight up idiots along with snipers to mid its gonna leave a bad taste in their mouth when it ends up being 5v6

Sadly, I see this a lot. I feel like most new players would rather market garden people while calling each other faggots and laugh about how they got a kill as backburner pyro in 6s. Even the people that aren't good enough for centers think they're too good for centers.

edit: I don't mean to just complain about new players, I guess my post is implying the question: How do we improve the experience for people that are part of the problem, or don't try to improve? As someone who has mentored a ton of Highlander players, I've found that the majority of a low level team is generally not that interested in improving competitively.

The success stories usually start like this: A player plays in pubs, and begins to play on a team with friends. They're interested in it because of their friends primarily, but the competition eventually becomes just as important, if not moreso.

raysAnother iffy thing is that while this should work properly to join tf2center matches, the built-in mumble integration probably wouldn't work properly since you're not running the website in a native browser but rather into a type of "emulated" browser built into the game.

I'm really impressed with the implementation and the fact that you guys got it to mostly work. Here's my issue with this: Who would install and use this HUD to play TF2Centers that wouldn't go to TF2Center normally? I'm just not seeing the problem that this solves if it's only distributed to people that normally use custom HUDs, which AFAIK are mostly comp players.

I think a good next step would be "newbie-only" lobbies, but those have a whole set of issues... I'm thinking of a form of "coach" spectating that would only let you spectate people from your assigned team to prevent ghosting. Would a sourcemod plugin be able to do this? Or could you put them on the team as a 7th/10th player, kill them, and give them a 30 minute spawn timer? Both of these require a Tf2center-specific plugin, I think. I definitely don't trust the honor system.

#3 Settings won't save in Q/A Help

Either your steam cloud is loading settings that it thinks are more recent, or you need to remove -autoconfig or -dxlevel from your launch options, or you've got video settings being overwritten in your autoexec.

If it's not one of those, check if maybe your settings file is set to read-only in its properties? I can't think of what else.

actual size, pulses red on damage. The visual indicator of the damage has helped me a lot when playing splash classes.

#38 How many frames do you get on mid? in TF2 General Discussion
bearodactylMOOSE_Lol, I get an average of 1200 constant and around 900 at mid.
dual gtx 660's + amd fx eightcore + chris's maxframes = gud
Have you ever checked to see if the game is using all 8 cores? Would be interested to see that. I've heard tf2 only uses one core, but my quad i7 with hyperthreading gets less frames than that. Could just be the dual gpus but I doubt it since tf2 is so cpu limited

Here's a generalized way to look at it:

A game's programming, generally, must be executed in-order to work. That's because the result of the previous calculation tends to impact the next one, in general. However, multi-threading can be accomplished by separating tasks into separate threads, which allows different processor cores to work toward rendering the same frame at the same time.

The ideal would be to to split as much as you can into separate threads so the program can make the most of your hardware. However, if one large job cannot be easily split into multiple threads, then that job cannot be broken up. If that job takes, for example, 50% of the total CPU time for each frame of the game, then the game could make effective use of all of the cores, and it would still be waiting on that one large job to finish. This would appear as a game that "only uses 2 cores", because only the addition of the second one would make a performance impact.

I think new technologies are looking to make the rendering of PC games multi-threaded in nature, so it would make it easier for programs to effectively utilize the available resources. In addition, new APIs like DirectX 12 and AMD's Mantle are trying to reduce the amount of CPU work it takes to render a scene, so the CPU should be worked less and thus hold the PC back less. It would then be up to Valve to make their games work with these new technologies, which is incredibly unlikely for a game as old as TF2.

tl;dr: a game can use all of the cores in the system, but some large tasks must be completed sequentially, which puts a hard limit on how fast the game can run. Source 2 will very likely work better, but who knows if we'll even see that in our lifetimes.

#32 Autoheal or hold m1 to heal? in TF2 General Discussion

I think i stopped using auto heal because it's much easier to stop healing a spy without it. (I'm the type of medic that would rather keep building and let the pocket take care of it than risk a lucky stab)

#146 Best person you have been on a team with? in TF2 General Discussion

I'd like to give a shoutout to Gamma. When I was on a team with him, he was a stellar individual who always wanted to talk everything out, and was more than willing to admit he was wrong if it meant working an issue out.

#22 How many frames do you get on mid? in TF2 General Discussion

I'd get drops to 65/70 that i coughs really feel on highlander midfights on my old processor, but the minimum is more like 100 with an Intel i5 3570k (quad core) which i don't notice much.

Run dx9frames if you're not already, and if you need to go further, try dx8 + highframes. If you're still not happy, get a great CPU (and make sure your graphics card is up to par for your resolution)

sounds like you're either installing the plugin incorrectly, or Sourcemod isn't installed correctly.

Generally alternative rock, a wide spectrum of genres but i'm fairly picky within them. I prefer chill stuff to upbeat stuff. Rock with electronic influences is great.
