#5 Mumble Overlay Thread in Off Topic
frknMy overlay only works if I have -dxlevel xx in my launch options. If I don't, the names are all very thick/blurred. Shift+tab doesnt work if I have the -dxlevel xx command. Halp

remove mat_antialias from your config entirely.

#46 Coaches Needed for Newbie Mix! in TF2 General Discussion
AllealOr that your sniper is good, or that they haven't seen the Sniper yet. All the Sniper needs is one kill to have made the offclass worth it. A pick on the Demo, Medic, or carrying Scout/Solly is net gain. Most Snipers make the mistake of waiting for a pick instead of going looking for one.

I'm not saying you need to explain all this to your newbies, or that you should be encouraging them to offclass frequently. I just wish you wouldn't immediately assimilate them into this tf.tv culture that believes Snipers can't kill anything on purpose.

What you're saying is incredibly high risk, and not good practice. If a sniper is far enough forward to be actively going for picks, then he's going to have one shot. After he takes that one shot (that's likely to be a hail marry shot in the first place) he's either going to get picked, or the other team is just going to push in because they have a sniper far forward and are essentially man down.

Have you tried different USB ports? It could be a USB port failing on your motherboard.

I'm trying to talk chriz in to having the person with the worst death during all this eat a ghost pepper on stream. Should be fun to watch regardless.

#4 ubber help? in TF2 General Discussion

Your phrasing is awkward. I don't know whether you DO want ubers shiny or DONT want ubers shiny. Regardless, the command is mat_specular 1 for them to be shiny and 0 for them not to be shiny.

The only thing I can think of off the top of my head that fries motherboards like that is plugging the firewire into the usb connector.

#22 windows 7 vs windows 8 in Hardware

The mumble overlay works fine in the 1.2.4 beta in Windows 8. As someone who is currently using it. I think by default it might be set to just show people talking though, so you might have to change that if you want all the names up all the time.

#4 windows 7 vs windows 8 in Hardware

I use windows 8 on my desktop. I had to get a start menu replacement because the metroUI is an abomination. Once I did that it works great, it's just like windows 7 with a different skin. That being said, there isn't really an advantage to using it over windows 7 other than some better support for newer technology such as UEFI and native USB 3.0 support. I'd probably say stick with Windows 7, unless you can find 8 for 30 bucks again, just because it's more stable.
