MarxistThe other neat part about this lan is how MM and Elevate teleported their demos back in time to like 08-09' and went to roaming demos. It didn't win them LAN, but it was neat to see how the teams tried to do it. It's something that hasn't really been done in the upper echelons of TF2 in a long time, and it obviously worked against the 4 other invite teams sometimes.
My opinion on this: the way the demo nerf works, it's a lot more minor on LAN ping than when playing with like 50-60 ping online. Therefore, no team could really rely on a high damage demo online, and most people decided to cope with that fact by having him roam rather than go the other extreme and take demos into basically every uber. Yet, on LAN, demo is still potentially strong enough that having him be a more central part of the combo is worth it, which helped Street Hoops and froyotech a lot. froyo in particular could deal with the reduction in online effectiveness by being so much better than everyone else and making LAN pretty much by default.
I suppose Mad Men was screwed either way because Pharaoh really isn't good enough to make a big impact in high invite. However, I think Bdonski could've done more if his team didn't have that super weird style of giving both soldiers lots of heals and running pyro (didn't I say that was a shit strat???).
