It still uses DirectX, it just sets DirectX to use the same reduced feature level as OpenGL.

You need to be specific, because some part of your set up might be harming performance.
If you are desperate for performance, you can reduce network processing by using the packet_rate=congestion module for mastercomfig.

Do you have multiple monitors? If so, there seems to be a bug in Windows 10 (might only be with AMD drivers, idk), that makes the mouse freeze if you have multiple monitors in certain situations. It happens more often if one of your monitors is off, but plugged in, or if it is a TV.
Try playing around with setting m_limitedcapture_workaround to 0 or 1.

Why can't TF2 also have higher requirements? Is it because we want to hold it back? "New" game based on its initial release date doesn't mean anything with so many updates that you can ship to games nowadays.
DX8 really needs to die and be removed from the Source Engine. We need to get its usage numbers down so that Valve is more comfortable with removing it and improving DX9.
Robin WalkerWe're also working on bringing over a variety of engine improvements from Left 4 Dead into the TF2 engine, but it won't be a wholesale replacement of the engine. This means we'll get some of L4D's performance improvements, like the better multicore support, but not all of them. Because mat_antialias 1 means antialiasing is off. 0 is not a valid value and is clamped up to 1.

Each folder in custom, it should be safe and if it doesn't work, revert back to the folder.

I don't recommend 17.9 or any fractional interp because of a bug that causes hitboxes to desync from their models.
15.2 is not recommended because of snapshot drops that cause inaccurate extrapolation.
However, you should set cl_interp_ratio first, then cl_interp if you really want to change your interp.
