#78 ESEA S18 & TF2 in TF2 General Discussion
omniHuckSome people will take UGC seriously but the vast majority will leave 6s if they don't have the same level of competition that ESEA matches bring.Forgive me if I'm ignorant here (and I'm sure you'd love to hear what another euro has to say), but what necessarily stops any of you taking that same competitive drive you have in ESEA and using it in a different, maybe free, league? I keep seeing the subject of "ESEA has the best competition" but surely it's the players that bring that competition, not the league.

I understand that UGC 6s is a joke. Teams that are in plat aren't close to the level of invite. If you put the invite competition into plat, you'd weed out the shitties in no time. Just as a disclaimer, I'm not saying you should go to UGC. It's merely the only example I have to use.

I know that you guys love the end of season lan. I get that, lans are fucking cool. But I don't think they're necessary for the end of an online season. There are surely plenty of lans you guys could attend, right? I mean, GXL looked like a blast and there's gotta be lans similar during the summer period?

However, I'm not used to having a lan 3 times a year, so I might be missing the point entirely. I always think of lans as an event everyone can play in. So again, apologies for ignorance.

I mean I think a lot of people would love it of ETF2L ran an American division, think a lot of people's problems with moving away from esea is there wouldn't be the same level of organization in other American leagues (UGC) and you are right in saying the competition lies with the players, but it's hard to move around (once again) because we don't want to keep diluting the player base more than we have to, lots of people tend to just quit the game and not bother anymore if big changes like this have to be made, it's a tough position.

That being said, I think everything will be fine if esea won't be so hastey when it comes to the fees, it is an odd time of the year for sign ups but the competition outside of invite this season looks promising.

Another thing, I'm already sponsoring a couple IM teams but if an open team is thinking about not playing because they can't make their fees, please come talk to me and I'll help you out with your expenses, MAD LUXURIOUS OPEN :)

#47 dota to league in Other Games
enigmafargobawlershow can u possibly act like league isnt p2w... yes you dont need to spend money ever but the game forces you to invest a lot of time to get GAMEPLAY ENHANCING champions/runes. the fact you can skip the time investment (which is equivalent to $$$) by spending real money means its p2w, full stop. if riot wasnt seeking to make money on people who want to pay instead of invest time getting the best runes and champions they would have a different monetization model

p2w doesnt mean that you HAVE TO pay to get the best runes/champions dont be intentionally dense
you can't buy runes with money...

why are you all still arguing? its as enigma says, runes can't be bought with money so by you're definition of a p2w game, this means League is not....meta heroes that are "OP" mostly refer to the competitive scene anyways and like 80% of the time won't apply to casual games that everyone on this forum is playing.

so please, can we give this p2w thing a rest??

#41 ESEA Map Poll in TF2 General Discussion

Why does everyone think Yukon is a bad map just because it plays differently from other 5cp maps, same goes for coalplant. Quit being hypocrites people, it's practically like you all open the thread and first post you see is "GRANARY IS BAD" so you all just jump on the bandwagon and don't even think about it

#33 ESEA Season 18 Registration in News

I have a very strong opinion when it comes to the map rotation.

While I don't think that any maps in the current rotation show any glaring flaws, I do think a lot of better maps have been passed on or looked over, or even some maps deserve a 2nd chance (unpopular opinion, cp_warmfront, Yukon, follower, freight with some revisions)

That's not specifically the issue, as I stated before I don't think the maps in the rotation are bad at all. My issue with the map rotation now without cp gravelpit has made having a different gamemode in the rotation seem counter intuitive for a couple of reasons. For one, I think that if 85% of the maps played are 5cp (bad math whatever) then all the maps should be 5 cp, just randomly throwing in 1 koth map a season just seems redundant (like having some unusual extra part or feature) why have teams practice the gameplay of 5 cp all season to have it randomly thrown off for 1 week to play, in my opinion, a completely different game. Not to mention the teams extremely good at koth, maybe better then they are at cp5, only get that 1 week a season to have a chance to play a mode they thrive in.

Now, this is not to say I think viaduct is a bad map, I think it's a great map, but would it not make sense to replace the less popular cp maps with koth maps so that our time spent practice koth and not cp does not seem so wasted or even random? There are great koth maps out there if you take a chance to look or even play test some.

Just a personal opinion, maps id like to see In the rotation are Yukon, coalplant and possibly sandstone

I love the new map except for the massive frame drops (specifically the lighthouse area on cp2)

#143 Lange's thoughts on the state of competitive TF2 in TF2 General Discussion

This isn't gonna be a post really reflecting on everything in the thread, but if people actually think esea will drop tf2 even with a lesser amount of players you're kidding youself lol they make great revenue off tf2 despite the lower number of players, they barely even pay attention to tf2 and they make money from it.

plobsto be honest all teams that use ugc gold or platinum to actually try and play competitive tf2 should all join esea

goodluck trying to convince them of that, the players from most of those teams are the most stubborn people I've ever talked to and think gold/plat is the pinnacle of comp tf2

TerywjWith all the dead teams I can't imagine them promoting 16 rosters. Same deal as last season and the seasons pre-S13 or whatever.

as far as I know 10/16 playoff teams are alive and well so they will all probably be promoted, I think it should be a really competitive season of IM.
