Banning funny copypasta is literally the worst thing that has happened to watching this game. I don't understand it at all. It's like if a pro sports team banned the wave or some shit, because they want you to be able to have a conversation with the guy 5 rows down from you.
No dude. I want to get belligerently drunk and yell at my team to run the ball.
If you want to have a conversation about the game you turn to the the guy right next to you, or in our case the other goons watching the game in mumble or discord or whatever.
Let me have fun in twitch chat, it's fucking agonizing as it is now
>but in TF2's case, comparing eras when competition levels were different in the volume of players as well as what's on the line.
there are now more players and higher prize pools tho, by that logic the current era should be more important
like just opening a random "golden era" liquipedia page, the one for season 9, invite had 5.2k on the line. the last seasons of invite had >9k in prizes. ESEA also averaged having like ~80 teams in the whole league, while the last season of rgl had >140 teams
clckwrkjetzi really dont understand how alex.exe didnt make it when destro has like, the exact same resume but back in 2008 when everyone was bad and made top 50
I think alex.exe should've made the list but I'll really only defend boomers if they were exceptional and destro was really, really good back then. Probably still a bit too high. Even though the competition is pretty lackluster you pretty much have to innovate and improve entirely by yourself. Even someone like myself that people think is a boomer had a lot of people to learn off of when I was getting into the game and that really accelerated my growth as a player and that knowledge bank only grows as time goes on. For a lot of the boomer squad they were learning the game and building the foundation for people that came after them, which I think is pretty impressive even if they were playing against people who could barely rocket jump. I'll reiterate though that I only really care if they were exceptionally good. Most of the boomer squad that span the 70-100 range could've all been back to back in the 90s and that would've been fine.
I didn't really mean it as an anti-destro post, and more that tery seems to think its more impressive to be good between 2008-2010 than e.g 2019-2021, which makes no sense to me. If alex and destro were both a top 2 demo for the same amount of time then they should receive about equal rankings, maybe alex a bit higher since on the eye test he's obviously much more skilled since he's playing in a later era where it's easier to get better. Instead we have destro at 50 and alex completely snubbed, which makes me question the methodology used to rank the players.
Like either alex should be here in this post right next to destro since their accomplishments are very similar, or both of them should have missed top 100, not one or the other, which indicates to me that theres some serious pro-old player bias/nostalgia in play. (Also branslam also has basically the same resume as destro with 4 playoff appearances, but branslam beat b4nny. Yet is somehow like 40 spots lower than destro??)

kind of sadge that this is getting cancelled while other games like smash continue to run lans without any complications, bars are open, my uni has 400+ person in person lectures etc. Like can we not just require vaccination and masks inside the venue and call it a day like everyone else does.
i think some eye testing is a good thing, and i mostly agree with the skeez/freestate placements. Also without eye testing theres no way delpo is this high, and he definitely deserves this placement. also agree with mustard that the eye test should have done lolguy/campy some more favors though (and honestly sandblast too since hes often been the highest impact player on his teams).

any 0.05ers
Branslam: 4 seasons, each top 4, with a championship
Rekuso: 13 seasons, 3 top 4s, zero championships
yet somehow he outranks branslam? Like I understand the bonus for being an invite mainstay for years, but IMO making playoffs every season with one of them being a win over froyo is significantly more impressive
MofujetzThen how come so many high div players are insufferable af ? :thinking:MofuClimbing up the divs (especially in HL) is mostly about being friends with the right people and not being good at the gamenews flash: people are more likely to want to play with you if you are a likeable person
i mean the insufferable ones are probably just good lol. i didnt say being in invite makes you likeable, i said being likeable makes it easier to get into invite.
Like theoretically think about player X and player Y. Both play invite. Player X is a terrible teammate, insufferable etc. but hes got great mechanics and calling so people play with him anyways. Player Y is pretty mediocre in that sense, but he has a really good attitude and people enjoy spending 5 nights a week with him, so they will pick him up over all the other mediocre players who are also annoying. I don't really believe in your imaginary player who is both insufferable and bad geting picked up every season, people would stop playing with them after one or two seasons.

i might put vhalin a bit higher
and muma should be significantly higher imo
lucrativePhantomi mean i'll wait til it's out but alex.exe not being on it sounds incredibly terrible if there's gonna be some pocket soldier from 2009 who could barely rocket jump on it in his place
I still and will always disagree with this take lol any of those players that were good "back then" if continued to play would have adapted and learned new mechanics and new meta, the game wasn't even remotely the same between any of these era's. we have also seen lots of players from super long ago continue to play and continue to be on top and learn new mechanics/metas (people like blaze come to mind)
yeah but alex literally beat froyo and top 2'd multiple times... Idk how that cant even be top 100. I'd probably have been comfortable putting alex in the top 60-70 just off that tbqh
why is there a week break between end of reg season and playoffs? it just pushes playoffs into finals season for students
