im in a similar position, looking to upgrade an i5-2500k @4.5GHz potentially this summer, games (tf2 mainly) and streaming (with nvenc atm but x264 would be nice for tftv at least). worth going for a 1600? i'd probably be manually overclocking and from what ive seen the 1600 and 1600x overclock very similarly which basically makes them identical

i5 2500k, Z77 Mobo and 8gb ram - Price Check

i got an i5-2500k for £90, zsomething mobo for £50 + a bit in shipping and customs, and the ram was £45ish. looks like a pretty good deal. id recommend getting a $30 cooler or something for overclocking (can get it to about 4.5GHz pretty reliably) and the cpu will keep up with modern ones easy.
