I'm getting recommended to refresh rather than reformat from some people. Apparently refresh removes all the apps and retains my media, and apparently reformatting might not get everything.

not sure. getting back all that stuff would be a major pain and keeping the stuff that i want to (i.e. configs) might be at risk for corrupted extensions anyway.
